Brett and I had a heart-to-art discussion earlier today discussing my art identity crisis and I came out of it with an idea for my final project. It was a good conversation, even though Brett apologized for being a "space cadet" in an email later in the day. He wasn't intent on fixing the problem, or even helping me think of something to do for the final drawing project- I got to discuss my art-identity crisis and I felt really comfortable doing it. I think he and I agree on a lot of thing to begin with, so we have a common starting point.
It was a really good conversation. I didn't feel lost in the ether of pomo like I have been for the past week. Last night Brian C. told me to follow my "spirit animal" (which is sort of a running joke- but we're kidding on the square) and I opened my mouth to explain why I couldn't right now. Paused. And said "Okay. I'll take it"
so, with advocacy, responsibility, utility, poetry and spirit animals on my mind, this is a little taste of my proposed final drawing project, as explained in a rather extensive email to Brett, if you care to peruse. . .
"I would like to make blankets out of my clothing and the fabric I have in my (vast) collection. These blankets are intended for the transient population of GR and others in the community in need. BUT I will not be giving them away myself. The distribution isn't settled on (pending research), but I'm considering sending these blankets to the mayor and other local representatives with a letter explaining my concerns and inviting them to give the blanket to someone in need. I'm also considering sending the blanket to existing programs and charities as a "thank you" note/donation to be given to someone in need."
like it?
whether or not it is Art is not a question I am currently prepared to discuss (read- I'm RUBYMILLER and I'll do what I WANT! So don't tell me what to do! -grumbling- why dinosaurs... pphhhtttt!). You may, however, make the assumption that it is art and comment/question/criticize accordingly.
