Kiss the sky--notes

Kinda mopey notes.

You know how when you're making whipped cream from scratch, there's a certain point after which if you keep whipping it the whole thing will just collapse and you'll be left with a mess?

I'm thinking that I'm at that point with this. It's been sitting here for a really long time, and I've got a lot of really really good suggestions from my betas, but I honestly cannot bring myself to do anything else with the damn story. It's not the story I'd meant to write; it's not the story that I think the concept really deserves.

(The story I wish I had is about thirty thousand words longer, and also maybe has some kind of quirky structure, because I really love quirky structure. Also it's funnier and there might be a bit where aliens ask them to demonstrate their trust or affection or openness by some sort of weird handshake.)

Maybe I'll add additional scenes at a later date; maybe I'll pull the story apart into its individual pieces and do a quirky structure thing; maybe I'll rewrite it wholesale, except I'd really hate to lose the line "when John was in Officer Training School, learning leadership and decorum and how to suck cock . . ." Maybe I'll never revisit it, because I was kind of depressed when I wrote most of it and I'm not particularly excited about going there, mentally.

Maybe someone else will remix it, or write SG-1 in this universe, or write the happy fun porny-times story where John happily fucks his way through the Air Force.

That's not this story, though: this is if you want to kiss the sky: an Everybody's Gay story; a story where they're not gay, they just love each other; the one where John's not gay enough for the Air Force.

Thank you to the people who said really interesting and/or helpful things along the way. Thank you especially to the people I pestered for beta, and I'm really sorry that I didn't actually implement any of your thoughtful suggestions.
