The Roots of All Things

Prom, noun, meaning a gathering of senior students at the close of their final year at their school, typically this is considered a large party and involves formal dress and after-parties. For more information see High School Life - The Great Encyclopedia.

Prom is a fascinating word and has its roots in the Latin, Promonium, which loosely translated means "awkward social situation."

Prom is a mission, also I just realized I started the last three paragraphs with the same word. The problem is that there is divisive forces pushing and pulling everyone. First is the desire to go versus the push not to go. I have a friend who is only having/going to an after-party and not Prom, the irony in this appears lost. I am a member of the silly coalition that wants to actually go to Prom, I'm white leave me alone. Second is the push for the traditional date-system, versus the pull for group excursions. I'm in the middle of both camps, so don't bother me. The group system usually, akwardly, has couples attached, it's a bizarre phenomenon. There are another set of unconfortabilities that I will address. One is the reject; this is a person who will INSIST in going to prom with you even though you, and everyone at your table would be excurriatingly uncomfortable by this action. That brings me to the issue of seating, for our particular prom the tables are in units of 10. I don't really have 9 people I can instantly gather and say, "Let's Go!" that don't already have their own little plans. Luckily for me I seem to be person 8, 9 or 10 at a couple tables and could sit there in relative comfort.

Here's my problem, my friends (or people I've deluded into calling my friends) have split into several tables and I need to make a choice soon. But how to choose! I figure the choice should be based on some sense of logic, coin or dice will ultimately decide I'm sure.

Interestingly enough I still have to actually buy a ticket, and until such a time I'm not actually going...
