Being unfamiliar with his surroundings didn't sit right with Susumu, all his life he'd been trained to know exactly what was around him at any given time, to know the best places to be when he needed information, and to know every escape route. He knew the streets and rooftops of Kyoto like the back of his hand, but he was utterly lost in this place. And that made him feel useless.
If he was going to be any use to Hijikata-san - any Hijikata-san - he would have to rectify that. And soon. Besides, memorising the forest's layout meant he wouldn't have to think about the fact that there were several Hijikata-sans.
