Hijikata made it a point to do one last sweep of the premises before he retired for the night. A servant's job was never done, especially not when you were unlucky enough to be one of the few competent ones. After cleaning up a mess in a forgotten corner of the manor and shooing a thieving servant out of the kitchen, he was nearly ready to call it a night. Pausing in one of the hallways, he sighed, and reached with one hand to massage his temples.
