When: Friday--last day of the battle.
Where: South of the mountains, in an open space, while Sieben's all Silent Hill.
Summary: The commanders, along with a few followers each, finally face off. The Crusade finally draws to an end--will the fallen be avenged, or will Chaos envelop everything?
Rating: R for violence, dark subject matter, and probable foul language. With this cast, really, what did you expect?
He had been numb for days--since the moment he saw Souji dressed in white, the smile after his apology, the way his body fought, struggled, and finally went slack, pinned to the cross in a mockery of some foreign god. Numb, Hijikata knew definitely, was better than feeling right now. Better to be cold and empty and capable of protecting the others, than to be human and useless. Better a demon who could avenge Souji than a man who needed to mourn for him. Everything but the drive to win--to find that bastard Kuro and make him pay--was clamped down on and ignored. He didn't need weakness or caring or love.
He couldn't afford them. Not with lives still on the line, not with a dead man to avenge, not with his failure to protect his people (not just one of his people--Souji) still weighing so heavily on him.
In this state, he'd moved through the battlefield all week, emotionless even as the barrier fell, as the troops fell back, as reports of more deaths came in. It was like walking in a dream--never truly feeling the exhaustion of his body or the pain he should have felt or even the blood on his skin. So the dark, bloodthirsty thrill when he finally found himself drawing near his target came as a surprise to him, the first strong sensation he'd been able to feel since Souji died.
He motioned to the men with him to spread out around the enemy, sword drawn and ready.
They would end this tonight.
