So I haven’t written a post in over two weeks. I have been really busy with a lot of different things right now. Feeling a little overwhelmed, but I am sure that will pass. I should be enjoying this time because a whole lot of stuff will be coming up starting in mid-March. Anyway things are as they are. I was writing this in my notebook while I am on the train, so that I can just post while I am at school. This is a lot more convenient since I can’t listen to my walkman when this goes underground and my CD player can be a bit cumbersome to carry. Well, I will just give you the highlights of what has been going on for the past week or so. Because so much has happened, I will put it in two posts (Week 1 and Week 2). Then all of us will be caught up on what has been going on and it won’t be ten pages long while doing it.
Friday (2/13) - this will have to be its own separate post titled The Wrath of Ron. You’ll see why once you have had a chance to read it. I typed my Orientation Coordinator application and passed in to Matthew’s office. It was 10 minutes after the deadline and he was already gone. I was worried that he would not accept my application since I passed it in late, so I was worried that I may not be able to get the job. I did go over to Jeff’s house to see Finding Nemo and ended up falling asleep. Oops!
Saturday (2/14) - Valentine’s Day. Woke up at Jeff’s. He had errands to do so he drove me back to the college, which was fine by me. We’ll see Nemo some other time I suppose. I sat in the Lounge, ate my soup and watched the 20 Most Celebrated Couples on TNT. Some of them were interesting like Diana Ross and the lead singer from Sting. That was one of the weirdest pairings I had ever had. So wasn’t Elizabeth Taylor being married to Lance Burton twice. What a waste of time and energy. After that I went home. My mother was initially ticked with me when I came in, but she got over it when I gave her a card and a box of chocolate. Besides that I went food shopping and then back to the school to feed my fish.
Sunday (2/15) - Nothing exciting happened. I went to Medford for the weekly SCC meeting. Mitch wasn’t there this week. For some reason, I was happier at the meeting. More comfortable than I usually am with him there. I don’t necessarily dislike him. I think that would be unjust since I only see him once a week. But there is something about his attitude that I don’t like. He seems kind of snobbish towards some of the other members. Anyway, the meeting went well and it was quick like a half-hour and that was it. It takes me longer to go one way (to or from the meeting) than the actual meeting itself. But I am having a good time at it, so I should be thankful for the little things in life. And the group as a whole is warming up to me, and I to them. John, Dona, and Andrew have always been nice to me though. I went to the school after watching half of the Practice. I lost all interest in that show after they got rid of over half of the cast without any mention as to where they disappeared. But tonight’s episode really seemed to be good, just like their first season. At the school, I ran into some friends of mine and chatted with them until almost three in the morning. We were talking mainly about the summer that just passed and all of the stuff that had been going on so far in the semester and how it was going to be the start of Week 6 here, which totally blew our minds.
Monday (2/16) - It was a holiday, so I actually stayed at home and watched the soaps. I also helped my mother around the house with a few chores. I really enjoyed staying home all day and just hanging out for a while. When I was in Admissions, I used to work all the time including Saturdays and holidays so I don’t usually remember being at home that much. It was such a pleasurable experience that I will definitely do it more often.
Tuesday (2/17) - Classes, classes, classes. Nothing too exciting going on. Had a quiz in Abnormal, which Jared and I both fucked up beyond all belief. Jared is so sick so I covered for him for the SGA meeting. I did remind him that there was an Eboard meeting though. In Research Methods we went over stats material so I was a happy camper. Saw Matthew in his office and he said that I need to schedule an interview for the OC position. So I asked him for an appointment as soon as possible. He scheduled me for the following day at 3 PM. I wasn’t expecting something quite that soon, but what’s done is done. I was quite grateful that he accepted my application. The Eboard meeting went pretty quickly, so I ended up going home early. When I got home, I looked at the different questions that I could be asked, so I would be prepared for the next day.
Wednesday (2/18) - It had been a week since I had my interview. The good news is that Shelley, the Director of Multicultural Services was also going to be interviewing me for the position. The bad news was that I was going to be asked a different set of questions because I had already filled the position last summer. So that means that I was going to be thrown a whole set of curve balls. They asked me about ten questions and I answered them so vaguely. I tried my best to answer them honestly and to think before I spoke but all of them seemed like I was trying to avoid the question that was presented. So needless to say, I didn’t think that it went well at all. I also had my doctor’s appointment. Generally I am well, but I need to reduce my cholesterol intake, since it’s a little high. They are also concerned about the glands in my throat and groin. They seemed to be a little enlarged, but they are not painful. Nevertheless, I have to make another appointment in a month or so for follow-up.
Thursday (2/19) - I woke up late, so I ended up missing my Health Psych class, but came in just in time for the quiz. It was on stuff that I had studied for my Stress and Illness class, so I think that I did well on the material. In Abnormal, we talked virtually ad nauseam about the case study that was coming up. We also were reminded about the movie for our extra credit paper. Jared was not in class so I assumed that he must have been feeling worse than he did on Tuesday. In Research Methods we had to do our sample presentation for our group of four, review for our 2nd exam the following Tuesday, and go over chapter 7. I also went down to Matthew’s office to get my letter regarding the OC position. And to my shock, I opened the envelope and read the letter, which stated “Congratulations, you have been selected as the 2004 Orientation Coordinator…” I was so ecstatic that I could not focus on any of Patients’ Rights class.
Friday (2/20) - I accepted my position as OC. I have no idea who my partner is going to be. I kind of hope that it will be a female so I do not have to share a room with my potential OC. I liked it last year when I had the room all by myself because then I could have things the way I wanted it and not have to get approval from anyone else.
This concludes the first part of this post. The second part of this will be following right after this.
