True geography geeks like me will quickly appreciate the itinerary I have chosen, but for others, here is the rationale for our seemingly
meandering trip. We left Niagara after a thoroughly enjoyable time. Our tour was a private VIP tour of the Canadian and US Falls and other attractions by private limo. We went on the Maid of the Mist, where I got some awesome video right under the Horseshoe Falls. We had lunch in the Minolta Tower before leaving the area.
We skirted the northern edge of Lake Ontario, stopping for a
Tim Horton apple turnover and a frozen cappuccino in Hamilton - big time
Ticats country. We reentered the US at Port Huron, and watched from high atop the international bridge as tankers left for Lake Huron. We got a room in Port Huron, stayed in and watched the Red Sox beat the Mets on ESPN while we had delivery from
Hungry Howie's Pizza, which was pretty darn good. This morning it was sleep in late, eat at Bob Evans and then off through the hinterlands of Michigan and through the North Woods to the UP (upper peninsula) and Sault Ste. Marie - the oldest city in Michigan - founded by the French in 1688 at the straits between Lake Superior, Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. We must be sick though - because we opted for the Red Sox game again instead of the hot tub at the pool. After a boat tour of the lock system tomorrow, we are off to the Iron Range of Minnesota, and the westernmost U.S. Atlantic Seaport on the shores of Lake Superior. Any guesses out there?
