The extinction of species and why it matters more than you think This was interesting to me, because the social networking theorists and some of the math that's vaguely alluded to I'm familiar with. I've mentioned (at a dead run -- I've not had the chance to discuss) Granovetter and Milgram, and the phenomenon Barabasi explained whereby scale-free networks are robust against accident and highly vulnerable to attack (you're unlikely to hit a super-hub by accident, but if you're looking for a target you can't miss it.)
