I am going to be backing my journal up to Dreamwidth.org shortly, and expect subsequently to post to LJ via DW's crossposting feature.
LJ USERS
The backup and crosspost processes involve a security vulnerability to anybody who has "friended" on LJ the person backing up (me): the LJ user making the back up has to give DW's server their own username and password to log in to LJ to capture their locked posts, and hypothetically it could access their friends' friends-locked posts. IF THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR YOU, YOU HAVE UNTIL 21:00 -0500 (TUE 12/27) TO UNFRIEND ME. (I won't mind, I totally understand; friend me over on DW.) I'm sorry to give such short notice - I'm itching to hit the button now.
The reason I have to migrate abruptly also pertains to you, fellow LJ users, so you may wish to do likewise if you haven't already. I would recommend it. Steps: 1) create a Dreamwidth.org account if you don't already have one, and 2) look up on DW how to import your LJ and do what it says.
EVERYBODY
If siderea.livejournal.com ever abruptly goes dark (like say LJ goes dark), you can still find me at patreon.com/siderea and siderea.dreamwidth.org. Bookmark those now.
I intend to continue to (cross) post to LJ indefinitely, at least for now.
(I don't suppose it's possible to do something like a .htaccess file for redirects on LJ to the new canonical URLs? Or even just add a META redirect tag to my layout?)
