winter solstice

It's Christmas, a few days since the winter solstice. Cold. Blow zero as I write this. I've spent yesterday and today indulging. Indulging in food, and wine, and things to watch. I've been saving all kinds of things for today, like Blue Bottle coffee, biscuits from Fortnum & Mason, Wine I can't get anymore, and all kinds of other stuff.

It's been an extremely mild winter. Was 60 a few days ago. The temps have gone down to the single digits, but it's supposed to rebound again. A few of the windows are broken, so, it's pretty cold in here last night and tonight. The landlord said he was going to fix them. This was in the summer, but the contractor he got ghosted. *shrug* Sadly, doesn't look like we'll get a major winter storm this year. Figures, the one year I'm home and don't have to worry about being stuck in an airport.

I spent Christmas Eve watching horrible movies. Titles too horrible to name. Well, I'll name one, I watched The Midnight Sky. George Clooney film. George Clooney makes average films. They read well, but in execution... I wanted to like this one more than I did. (I know this is going to sound nitpicky, but a spaceship like that isn't going to have so much wasted space. Sorry, but NASA doesn't prioritize interior design over functionality.) Plus, I figured out the big plot twist from reading the four line description of the film. Never a good thing. And, and... Anyway, today has been much better. Journey into Fear earlier and because of the passing of Diana Rigg a few weeks ago, I felt The Avengers episode "Too Many Christmas Trees" was in order.

I'm going to end the day with a pizza and an episode of Endeavour I've been saving! Later I plan to get under the covers, shielded from the cold with a whiskey and a stack of books.

I spent yesterday and today alone, and I have to say, one of the better Christmas I've had in years!

endeavour, netflix, science fiction, the avengers, christmas, movies, film
