Things have been pretty hectic with me lately...work, friends (or lack there of), ex's...you know the same ole shit that always bogs downs one life.
Work is what one expects of it, good days and bad. The good, my old manager was fired for gross incompetence. The bad, the new manager is a corporate super-nazi. "It's my way or the highway," she said. Yes she actually said that to us in group meeting. The only thing that came out of that meeting that has been good is that we all got paid like $50 for like an hour meeting (I think it was to compensate us for the fact alot of us were there on our day off?).
My friends(?) have been flaking on me lately and it sucks. Usually these were the people I could depend on to go to shows with or do whatever else came across our devious little minds. Now they are no where to be found so I've only gone to a couple shows in the past two months cause I hate going alone. Regardless, I will be going to see this show sunday:
Sun. Jun. 12 - 5PM - All ages
LAWRENCE ARMS
Chicago's Lawrence Arms are a gritty but clever punk rock trio that trace their beginnings back to 1999. These three punks/hunks/drunks blend East Bay punk with an intelligent and introspective Midwest sound. Take those musical influences and add a heap of bad television, some leftist literature, and exactly three cases of the cheapest most watery piss beer you can muster, and you're just beginning to get an idea of what this band is about. Imagine Aaron Cometbus and the guys from Jawbreaker sitting around happily drinking Hamm's from martini glasses in a dank Chicago basemant whilst watching Press Your Luck or The Rockford Files.
A WHILHELM SCREAM
Much the Same is an aggressive, melodic punk rock band from the south side of Chicago. Since 1999 this group has been working hard to create catchy yet powerful music, while steadily growing in popularity through shameless self-promotion and tons of hard work. This nationally touring band receives a warm and honest welcome in every city it plays, building its fanbase quickly with every intense performance. Their catchy hooks, in-your-face vocals, aggressive attitude, natural excitement, and energetic stage presence makes for an experience that has been described as "balls out fun!"
THE METHADONES (ex Screeching Weasel / The Riverdales / Sludgeworth)
Incorporating catchy power pop with guitar-fueled, hook-laden punk rock, the Chicago quartet The Methadones prove to be much more than the scads of young pseudo-angry bands that have cashed in on the pop-punk formula of Green Day in the early '90s. The Methadones, led by guitarist / vocalist Dan Schafer (aka Dan Vapid from Screeching Weasels), along with lead guitarist Mike Byrne (The Vindictives), bassist Pete Mittler and drummer Mike Soucy, snatch their sweet, sticky brand of pop-punk from the hands of babes, only to repackage it all into short, searing treats for those a little more mature, but who still know a good time when it clobbers them over the head. The band's knack for injecting their infectious melodies with an unbridled sense of rebellious enthusiasm only solidifies that these guys are serious about their craft.
So I can't wait until sunday cause I got that going for me. Yay!!!
On the other front, I've finally gotten all that bullshit with my ex dealt with. I agreed to meet with her one more time and we talked, more like argued, a bit. She cried of course and continued to blame me for everything that went wrong with her and I, I'm the reason she cheated on me apparently? After like two-hours of this debacle I finally just told her that the reason you cheated on me is because you were a dirty-whore (yes I know that sounds harsh, but she did cheat on me with my former best friend-i.e. former because you slept with my fiance). After that I told her to never call, write, see, or think about me ever again and I stormed out of the little coffee house we were at and everytime my cell rang it was her but I refused to answer it. And now three days have gone by with no sign of her, thank the gods. I think it really helped both of us though. I mean I don't want to be a hateful person but when we originally broke up it was really kind of murky to whether it was really a break-up or not. I guess it was like one of those "breaks" girls are so fond of telling us guys they need, except this time I was the one who said we needed the "break" only I phrased it as I need some time to think about stuff. It's good it's finally and truly over. I mean she broke my heart with what she did, but she needed to know what my stance on everything was and god-damn it I did it and it's done and I'm better off for it. Serenity now...serenity now.
