this place is pretty awesome. i went there sunday night, and had some delicious beer and food. was going to see super 8, as well, but the very small cinema chamber only seats like, 45 people, and it was about half full. too big a crowd for me. no big loss, i probably would not have liked it that much anyway. if professional critics generally give it three stars, describing it as a combination of several other spielberg movies.
i have only been here three times in the last two years, but i used to go every other week. the beer is forever terminator. i do not care much for any of their other brews. terminator stout is a brew that i would gladly drink warm.
the food is from their rotational menu, not the regular menu. on this night, it was the blacksmith steak sandwich ($12.95) with fries. i am not a fan of mushroom soup, although i am sure i should probably have tried it. i could at least have finished the sandwich after the soup, rather than the enormous serving of fries (ratio of fries to sandwich was 1:1, about the size of a football combined (that is, the oblong pigskin, not an actual football). had i gone with the soup, i suspect i would actually have liked it.
the food, while greasy, is nothing that i have ever been dissatisfied with. the grease makes it so much more delicious than it would have been than from say, a lean mean grillin' machine.
because their rotational menu changes, the blacksmith steak sandwich is described as:
Sliced mesquite ribeye, frizzled onions, smoked mozzarella, chipotlé mayonaise, lettuce, tomato on a rustic French roll, with your side of choice
"your side of choice" in this context refers to soup, salad, fries, or tots.
i kind of miss going there... but it seems to me that i used to get out for about $10 less than i did tonight, and have more than twice as many drinks.
but it was nice to sit in a dark room, sipping beer and reading my book (still working on aldous huxley's "brave new world") for a couple of hours.
