So, Blackwells' had A Tangle of Magicks!

Not in YA, which is where I saw it shelved in the US, so I'm glad I checked 9-12 too. Makes much more sense to be there, of course, since Kat is 12.

So anyway, I hung out in the Blackwell's cafe while elsmi was busy, reading and giggling out loud and doubtless drawing some looks; but I couldn't attend to them, because oh my, have Kat and her siblings ( Read more... )

housing, stephanie burgis, squee, update, a tangle of magicks

Do posts mean more brane? I selfishly really, really need some Shweta-brain on current p. Oh, so desperately--I am so afraid I'm fumbling into colonial POV hell.

oh dear. I want to be braining enough to help with that! I could definitely *talk* about it at some point soon I think...

But right now more posts just mean I'm babbly, I'm afraid. This is the had-to-use-rescue-inhalor babbly that precedes faceplanting; it's great to have no smoking on the buses, but when plenty of people put the cigarettes out 2 seconds before they get on the bus, it doesn't actually help me. So, not up to reading more than short snippets of anything over MG/young-YA right now (which is why I was extra-excited to find Kat #2).

Though I got to read Blood Spirits on the train ride, and loved it :) So I am *overall* up to reading, it's just the house hunt and requires bus rides are knocking me flat.

Dryers are less common over here, not least because a lot of houses and flats have quite small kitchens and they take up space. You can buy combined washer-dryers, though.

Yes, but if we're renting a place with a washer, where would we put a washer-dryer?

You might be able to persuade the landlord to let you install yours in place of the one provided. I've managed similar things in the past.

In particular, tell them about the medical aspect.

Putting a box fan to blow on the line drying stuff worked well for me in my dryerless days, and I'm hideously mildew allergic myself. Getting one of those zig zaggy towers-of-dowels and putting the fan to blow through it from one end, and then turning it around to blow through the other end is one way ( ... )

We don't necessarily get to pick, is the thing; these flats come with a washer already there taking up all available space, and there's nowhere to put a washer-dryer. Though apparently one can get small dryers...

I'm most worried about towels and linen; they take long enough to dry that even with a good setup they're likely to get that tiny bit musty. Which is too musty for me :(

Ah, right, hmm. Do people do drop-off laundry over there? Not sure how affordable it would be but around here the dry cleaning places also do laundry by the pound - wash, dry, fold.

Perhaps? But hypoallergenic, scent-free laundry? I highly doubt. There's like ONE brand of scent-free detergent at any given larger shop we've seen here. And scented tissues are not marked to let one know they are; they're a default.

This place and scents *argh flail gah*

I just wanted to say how very happy this entry made me. THANK YOU!

And ohhh, crossing fingers so hard that you can find a housing possibility that works.
