Today is a very good day indeed

Look at me, making two entries in as many days!

It is such a nice day.  I was woken at 7am by the delivery of my very own bed.  A bed!  This may seem a trivial thing, but I have been sleeping on a mattress on the floor for six months, because my four-poster won't go up the stairs, and it's been horrible.  Anyway, it's really good to have a bed again, even if it's in a box.  And the sun's out.

We just had a lecture on Philip K. Dick's novel and its movie adaptation.  I don't make a habit of liking science fiction.  I thought that the book was poorly written and Harrison Ford's character was not likeable at all in the film, but it was interesting to think about what constitutes a 'human.'  Empathy?  Reason?  Ability to use Twitter?  My professor kept saying "man" instead of "human" though, which caused me to squint more and more each time until my eyes were just little slits by the end of the lecture.  I am reminded of Simone de Beauvoir: man is defined as a human being and woman is defined as a female.  But yeeeeeeeeeeahh... that's not for today.  Today, I am happy and sunshine :D and don't need to ever watch Bladerunner ever again!

Went down to the lake on campus with some friends.  They say I look like Amelie now... this pleases me.  I made my first daisy chain of this century.  I made friends with some ducks.  On the way home, I saw 100 million dead catapillars-- their big furry corpses were all over the pavement.  Maybe they were confused by the sun and decided to throw themselves underfoot.  It was very sad.  But then I saw an alive bumblebee, and life is pretty sweet.
