castle why you do this to me ♥
I am EXCITED about the direction this show is going in. VERY excited. And I'm sure it's going this way because now we have room to play around in a third season, so the writers can crank up the character development. Between Esposito getting his own story two weeks ago and now getting to see how Castle acts when someone else gets cozy with Beckett, I'm glad to see them finally exploring the whole potential of these characters.
I find it interesting that Beckett is slowly but surely shoving Castle away, bit by bit, in favor of the new guy- what's his name, Demming? But I'm finding Castle's reactions to it even more interesting, in no small part because it somewhat justifies some of the characterization choices I've made with him while RPing him at
edensphere; I apped him before they were even sure that the show would be picked up for a full second season, much less a third one, so he's fairly early-series now, before a lot of this development happened. I've always played him as treating life and everything else as a joke because opening himself up to people means he's opening himself up to being hurt by them, and he's scared of that happening.
Well, we're seeing what it's like when Castle isn't the center of attention, and after he's opened himself up to Beckett so much- suddenly there's a competent new guy, a guy who can match Beckett in wits, smarts and physical strength, someone who's her equal and she's clearly developing feelings for. Suddenly, Castle is getting told to stay behind, that his help isn't needed anymore, that he has to stay out of the interrogation room, and it's starting to get under his skin. Add that on top of the fact that he has to deal with the fact that Alexis isn't daddy's little girl anymore, that she's growing up and pretty soon won't be there all the time, and yeah. He does NOT like it, and he doesn't seem to know what to do about it except desperately try to be the center of attention again, either by poking Beckett or running off to find someone else who'll coo over him.
Can't wait to see where this is heading.
