Yes, I'm still alive! It's been a while since my last update, sorries... >.< I've been sick recently (fever of around 100, headache, sore throat, dizziness... it sucked), but i'm feeling better tonight. I made myself soup! Thats right. MADE. I made soup from scratch and was SO impressed with myself. I had lettace, potatoes, rice... SO good ;D

There is some virtue to a setup in which you recite lessons rather than make everything from scratch and attempt to teach. It's a good place for a novice teacher to come in and get used to being in front of and interacting with students. I was glad to have a lot of structure to step into when I started teaching. It made things much easier... though I do empathize with your frustration of just doing canned lessons.
Experience of teaching in Japan might also go well toward your application to graduate school, so I wouldn't dismiss JET and similar programs just yet. You may want to talk to the graduate advisor in the program at OSU and anywhere else you would consider to see if JET, or something else, would help your chances of getting in.
