Ah, I forgot all about this quill- such a luxury i'm not used to. I suppose I should make better use of it though.

The weather is getting hotter and with it comes the usual early-summer boom in both lice and fever, although we've had extra problems this year. Someone dropped a dead cat in one of the wells and I have half-a-dozen households struck down as a result of the contamination. Nothing that seems fatal, thank god, which is more to be said for the latest outbreak of fever by the dirge gate- probably bought in by one of the undertakers handling bodies of fever victims further out. An old lady passed on Thursday and a small boy last night. I urge anyone with chills and sensitivity to light to send for a medic at once- the longer you wait the lower your chances get.

As for lice, we've discovered by trial and error that topical application of vinegar really seems to keep them at bay, although it doesn't last long if you don't also take the precaution of boiling the sheets and fumigating with sulphur.

Sorry, I suppose to non-medics everything I write must seem terrible. I'll try and write something much more pleasant next time!
