I went to go and check up on a patient today who's had some trouble with his leg. On my way in, I noticed there was a pile of gravestones next to the house so I asked about it. Apparently, I have inadvertently inspired this particular madcap scheme. The last time I visited we spent some time discussing the state of the road- or really, the lack of one. It's nothing but mud at the moment and it gets everywhere and makes it hard to walk, but the residents can't afford for paving and the city won't pay for it. I (and I don't remember, but I suppose I must have) suggested that if every man bought home a nice big flat stone from somewhere on his way back from work, and the kids bought back sand from the beach, they could probably pave it between them for nothing.

It took some time convincing him that whilst grave stones were indeed nice and big and flat and it didn't seem like anyone was using them, it was still stealing. I think the argument that finally won was that stealing graves is unlucky.
