This just sucks. Being sick/injured brings out the worst of my fatalism. Being both.. well, it's that much worse. I feel like I'm never going to be well and uninjured again. I've been sick now since December 27th or so, and .. I'm still sick ( Read more... )

I hear ya...sort of. There's been a resolution made over here that's gonna require some exercise, but this constant nagging cough makes me not wanna do it. I've been doing exercise-lite (walking, yard work) instead of none, but I'm not hurt on top of the illness. Hope you feel better soon, oh ye of little self-faith. You must know full well you're gonna run that marathon. ;)

Dear Amy,

I am so sorry that you are not feeling better yet. Please don't get too discouraged. There is still something like 37 days until the marathon - that's more than a month! (I'm too lazy to get up and check my watch for the exact number). Your sickness is going to go away, and while you're recuperating your hamstring/knee/foot/whatever is healing a little bit more every day. If it makes you feel any better, Jeff bailed on his trip. He feels pretty lousy today too. Damn that cedar!!

I hope you feel better. I've been there too. Tripam probably remembers this. A couple years ago I got sick and it took me forever to get better. I happened to be training for a marathon at the time. I had a nagging cough that would not go away. I remember being so frustrated. It really screwed up my training. I remember doing everything I could to make it go away. I had TWO humidifiers and a bunch of vapor rub all going at the same time. I put so much menthol smell into to air to that I made myself even sicker from the fumes. I ended up feeling better enough to crank out one or two 10-15 mile runs. I did the marathon coughing that year. I actually had a decent time.

Anyway, what I am trying to say is that you have got plenty of time to recover. Don't stress about it. Many people get sick and miss out on some training and still do just fine for the marathon.

Yeah, I went through the cough-gag reflex phase. At work, even (people were sprinting away from me like I was Typhoid Mary). I know it sucks, but take the time to let yourself heal. I felt like a huge slacker while I was getting better, but I got better. Hot bubble baths are delightful and help clear up the gunk. Rest.
Hope you're feeling better soon.
