King - Chapter 01

At dawn, the bell struck and rang clearly throughout the whole town, causing one of the occupants of the town to groan in irritation. Eunhyuk threw his covers over his head to try and muffle the sound and when that didn’t work, he flipped his pillow over his head. While the bell continue to ring until the minute was over, all Eunhyuk could do was wishing tomorrow would come faster as it will be the last day for the silver bell to ring.
Waking up at the break of dawn for the last four days, including today, was taking a toll on Eunhyuk. It was suppose to be vacation! A break from school, he doesn’t want to wake at the crack of dawn for no reason. Especially when it was the last few weeks before he had to go back to the grueling Academy. When the bell finally finished it’s ringing, he muffled a scream in his pillow, letting his annoyance out hoping it would help him and bring him relief. It did, until someone almost broke down his door by violently opening it and slamming the door against the wall with a huge thud. He only had one guess as to who it might be.
“Eunhyuk!” A familiar voice said loudly with heavy steps walking towards him, “Come on! We have to catch the dove! I want to be King!”
Definitely Donghae, Eunhyuk thought before groaning and giving up on going back to sleep, if he tried, he knew Donghae will without doubt, mercilessly make him get up. Sitting up, he moved his legs to touch the cold wooden floor and headed towards the shared bathroom with Donghae on his tail, bouncing around like an excited puppy.
“Let’s go, let’s go!” Donghae hovered over Eunhyuk who was trying to get ready for the day. “We need to catch the dove and become King!”
“Donghae,” A new voice said, coming from the doorway, making Donghae pause in his excitement to turn and see their other housemate standing there.
“Kibum!” Donghae exclaimed happily.
“Don’t bother Eunhyuk when he’s trying to get ready,” Kibum said while motioning his hand to Donghae, “Come help me get the table set up for breakfast.”
“But-but!” Donghae excited face fell into disappointment, wanting to just hurry and find the dove, like, right now.
“No buts,” Kibum shook his head, making a ‘come here already before I manhandle you’ gesture. “We can chase the dove another time. It’s not like you can become King straight away when you catch it. It’s always a five year wait, which you should have know if you stayed awake during History.”
“But it’s History,” Donghae whined, reluctantly following Kibum out. “Do you know how many years we have to cram in our head? A lot! Especially with our lifespan!”
“At least learn the First and Second Age’s History,” Kibum voice still audible from the hallways. “You lived through most the Third Age and we’re almost halfway through the Fourth one.”
“What do you mean only First and Second?!” Donghae exclaimed unhappily. “The Second Age is twice as long than the Third Age and the First age is like, double, triple the Second Age!”
“Tough,” Kibum said before saying something Eunhyuk couldn’t make out due to the distance between them.
Eunhyuk finishes gurgling his water before spitting it out in the sink. “And you don’t catch the dove to become King,” Eunhyuk muttered as he rolled his eyes while taking his towel to wash his face, “It’s not even a bird right now. Don’t they listen to the lecturers? I swear, children.”
