Thank you for posting the link. What a thoughtful, intelligent and self-effacing (like the man himself) speech.

You're welcome. It was a nice speech. It's hard to know whether to love Viggo more for being a great human being or a handsome, hunky actor who gave us a marvelous Aragorn.

Not a problem! It's tough to keep track of what's locked and what isn't. Fortunately, Telesilla had linked to that earlier.

So terribly sorry! I don't know why I keep doing that...I guess I only ever think of things as being locked that are sensitive or personal materials, yo know? I never remember that people lock up their entire LJs. My apologies! I've fixed the post!

Aw, no worries. I tend to do the same thing.

Wow, every time that man opens his mouth, I fall in love a little harder. The political edge may seem harsh, but I would have appreciated that sort of bare, poignant speech much more than the cliches and platitudes I heard at my own graduation. Plus, the NBC journalist (whose name I've long forgotten) wasn't nearly as pretty as Viggo. *g*

Yeah, I was saying above to andolinn that I give him credit for trying to be specific about what to do, rather than just a "Do well!", vague sort of directive. I just liked what he had to say up to that point and didn't think he needed to go any further because I would have felt uplifted and inspired by the rest of it--the idea of questioning things and being a responsible citizen, and maintaining the same ideals you have now later in life. He put all of that forth in an eloquent and non-boring way. :P

And honestly I have no idea who spoke at our commencement! I think I was too busy sitting there being ticked off that it hadn't rained in 25 years, but it rained for *our* graduation...so we were stuck in a tiny crap gymnasium instead of out on the beautiful campus grounds, and only a few of my family were able to attend. I was incredibly bummed and pretty much remember little else! But I think if Viggo had been there, it might have made an impression. *G*
