I can still remember seeing the previews in the theater for FOTR--I hadn't even been sure I wanted to see it, and then Legolas came up over that hill. I hadn't gasped like that since Brad Pitt showed up in Thelma and Louise...heh.
I was actually overwhelmed by the first one; like you say, it was a whole 'nother world and having not read the book it was all so strange and new. With every viewing I appreciated it more and more.
The pics are awesome, aren't they? They really just seemed to have such a blast and were soooooo smooshy. I'm happy to see that for the most part they seem to still have affection for each other and get together when they can.
The Orli laugh is the best...and I agree, I love Liv too--I've got a whole series of those where Lij just jumps up into Orlando's arms--and Liv is cracking up the whole time. Hee!
Viggo really did make Aragorn work...he invests so much in his characters and believes in them so we can too. And I think something about being in New Zealand for so long, out in the country and woods and mountains so much--the actors really were living as those characters at least in part. I know the actors said that the surroundings and the actual real buildings really helped make their performances more real.
On the first viewing of the films I really didn't get the whole Viggo squee thing until about halfway through The Two Towers. And in subsequent viewings, it's still the same--I like him, but it really kicks into overdrive in the middle of TTT. I think it has a lot to do with the character coming into his own and becoming stronger and more brave. And sexy. *G*
