chicago people seeking entertainment

This year I made the decision that I want to read and write more, and at least once a month, I need to go do something cool in the big city. Like go to a museum, a concert, or a play, because why live in Chicago if I'm not going to take advantage of it?

Last Saturday, I went (with tzikeh et al.) to see Thom Pain (based on nothing), put on by Theater Read more... )

I am so jealous of your city!

I had one weekend there. I got to see Wicked! which was FABULOUS, and omg tackiest theatre EVER. I tried to take photos but some girls behind us were like 'omg the ushers will beat you to DEATH put it AWAY', and ate at allegedly the oldest Italian restaurant, and spent the next day at the Field Museum and it wasn't enough *cries and cries* I could have spent a week just there. Also, we did the Architecture cruise which I hadn't expected to find particularly interesting but was great.

SO JEALOUS.

Definitely spending more time in Chicago next year.

I know how you feel. I used to be jealous! And now I'm living here!

I have to keep reminding myself that I'm no longer living in a cultural backwater in the middle of nowhere. I mean, the House of Blues is down the street from me right now, and dude, I can go to the Chicago Institute of Art whenever I want, because it's right there.

Now I just have to decide what I'm going to do next month. I like having this kind of problem.

The special exhibit they have going at the Art Institute is pretty neat if you are interesting in Modern Art or art history. They also have this special series called Silk Road which brings in artists from Silk Road regions to share their methods and art. A few weekends ago they had a Hindu dancer.

Also I hear first Fridays at MCA are pretty cool if you are into that sort of thing.

Ooh! The Silk Road series sounds fabulous, and I don't think I've been to the MCA yet. Thanks!

Only until April 14?? mahoy March 21 2007, 18:06:03 UTC
Dammit!
I'm actually going to be in Chicago at the end of April for a conference, and this actually seems like something I'd enjoy seeing if I can escape the clutches of my boss (who WILL be attending with me). *sigh*

If the play does really well, they may extend it. This comes from the reliable source of Jeremy Wechsler, the director. Check the Theater Wit website occasionally this month and early April to see!
