Apparently it has been a year since I last posted incredibly short reviews of stuff what Netflix had sent me. Dude! Where does the time go?

2046 -- that was Maggie Cheung, not Gong Li. (Also Faye Wong, who played the robot future-girl, whom I adore.) Cheung and Leung were in the In the Mood for Love, which is just as gorgeous, in a less WTF-y way, and almost as plot-free.

I think the humiliation-squick is a necessary part of Ripley, for getting through the movie. As you know, Bob, I am wildly averse to humiliation, but witnessing Tom's embarassments was a way of storing up credit for him later in the story, when each potential "humiliation" becomes something more on the scale of "will go to jail for ever and ever."

Also, I think it is the last movie in which Matt Damon played the eager young thing. He was such a puppy then.

Somehow I must have broken my brain with all that copying and pasting. Huh.

I have seen In the Mood for Love and liked it much more than 2046. 2046 was pretty but... WTF?! Apparently I can handle a meandering, plotless narrative, but adding robots is too much.

I just don't know if I can make it that far! Maybe someday when I'm feeling particularly bulletproof, I might try watching it again.

Someday we will actually be in the same room together again -- this has happened only twice before, am I right? -- and I will staple your eyes open and then start up the DVD.

He is so squirmy. It is so uncomfortable. And then he gets to be his own ego-ideal, like a Mary Sue come to life, and you go, "Yes! You totally deserve those violet eyes! Auburn ringlets? Why not!!"

...possibly I have a steel spike and a chalkboard where other people have a conscience.

...not really an incentive for me to come to the East coast or any future F2F, what with the stapling.

Alcohol would probably work better. I'll try drinking every time I get horribly embarrassed on his behalf, and see if I can make it to the end without passing out.

That is a FANTASTIC costume, and yet, I too would be running away screaming, "Aiiiiiiiiieeee!"

OMG me too!

Also, you now must download and watch heresluck's "Cat Scratch Fever" because it is a perfect distillation of the film into 3 minutes.

You have me intrigued... cynaera January 29 2007, 20:38:55 UTC
...just enough to wanna rent some of these flicks. I have "Threesome" and I thought Stephen Baldwin was hilarious in it. I bet he wishes he'd never done that movie, because now he's a born-againer. I loved the soundtrack for it, though - "New Star" by Tears For Fears makes the movie worth it, and Lara Flynn Boyle is, well, who she is.

Why did you find "Pi: Faith In Chaos" so disturbing? Couldn't have been as bad as "The Ring," could it?

Why did you find "Pi: Faith In Chaos" so disturbing?

It's a claustrophobic movie about genius and mental illness, and the mental illness aspect of it is especially disturbing to me, more so than most horror movies I've seen.

Blow Dry: Dear Alan Rickman, Will you marry me? Love, shrift.

God. My thoughts exactly. Guh.

And a former coworker of yaoobruni's is married to one of the stars of Broken Hearts Club. The one time we watched it, half of me was going "oooh, slashy movie, yay" and the other half of me was going "but that's Ben! He's not gay, are you kidding me?!" *g*

Tattoo on the bottom of his FOOT.

This is why I am glad that I don't know that many actors. It's more difficult to suspend your disbelief. ;)

Boa vs. Python: Oh, shut UP. You know I did it for the Hewlett! And I solemnly swear that I fast-forwarded through any scene without the sexy Hewlett or a giant snake killing some stupid people.

I still have that on tape. I need to watch it. Possibly today.

Blow Dry: Dear Alan Rickman, Will you marry me? Love, shrift.

Really, the only possible response to Alan Rickman.

The Broken Hearts Club: I liked this movie. Dean Cain! Zach Braff! Timothy Olyphant being able to emote like a normal person unlike the incredibly repressed Seth Bullock! I almost didn't recognize him.

I saw this before, oh, Scrubs and Deadwood. I am so very tempted to rent it again.

Grave of the Fireflies: Horrible and moving, and I never want to see it again.

And pretty much the only possible response to this movie.

The Memory of a Killer / De Zaak Alzheimer: This is a movie about a hit man who is losing his memory. How awesome is that? There are also some pretty Belgian detectives who fight crime.Oh, that was the one with the slashy detectives, wasn't it ( ... )

It's so bad. So very, very bad. And yet, Hewlett? Hot. It's not fair.

I saw this before, oh, Scrubs and Deadwood. I am so very tempted to rent it again.

I will admit that a part of me was entertained by Clark Kent, J.D., and Seth Bullock in West Hollywood.

Oh, that was the one with the slashy detectives, wasn't it?

Yes! You told me to watch it.

Clearly the only possible response to Clive Owen.

And I still want Boyd/Tanner slash!

Oh, I loved this, though it's been ages since I've seen it. Wonderfully creepy.

I really need to try watching it again, possibly with the aid of alcohol to get me through the horribly embarrassing parts.
