Okay, so I haven't gotten around to posting much of anything from the roadtrip yet. Big surprise there, I know. I don't know how much longer it's going to take, because I'm heading off to do another three weeks of house-sitting tomorrow. This time it's going to be in New Jersey, so it's not going to be another roadtrip, which means I can bring a big pile of DVDs with me without having to worry about them melting in the car while I'm off hiking or anything like that. It also means that, if I want to, I can go home from time to time, though it isn't exactly a short drive. Another bonus of this house-sitting location is that it's only a 1.5 hour train ride from NYC. I'm definitely going to take advantage of that at least a couple of times. Need to pack my Manhattan map. Actually, I still need to pack everything. I haven't even gotten fully organized from getting back from the previous trip, so packing might be a little more difficult than usual.
On a semi-unrelated note, my car is now fully legal again until this time next year. The car needed new tires, some new sensors in the engine, and some other work in addition to the usual oil change and such, so it wasn't cheap. Fortunately, Dad said he would buy the tires for me because he had never gotten around to getting me a birthday present this year, so I only had to spend around $700 instead of $1,000+. There was an odd combination of factors on Saturday (something about it being too hot out to do a cold start, which was necessary for resetting something internal that needed to be reset before the mechanic could do the emissions test) that meant that I had to take the car home, drive it at least 75 miles, and then bring it back again in a day or two. Dad and I used that as an excuse to head over to Mom's house for dinner, and we ended up going into Philly for pho. Our favorite pho place turned out to be closed for the week because the owners were on vacation, so we went to a place that I've been meaning to try for a while but never got around to before now. It was pretty good, but I still like Pho Xe Lua better. Anyway, having driven a sufficient number of miles, I took the car back in yesterday, and they did the emissions test and gave me my stickers, so it's all legal. Yay.
Other than that, not a lot of interest has been going on around here since I got back from my trip. I've just been relaxing and occasionally trying to write. We'll see if I have anything interesting to report after I've been in NJ for a while.
