Characters: Sensei, Nekura, and RandomBadGuy
Location: Traveling
Time: Before Main ArcSensei strode across the ground, the soles of his shoes barely making a sound against the packed dirt road. His hands were in his pockets, his head tilted back to stare up at the sky and appreciate the good weather. His nose was tuned to alert him at the ( Read more... )

Nekura's eyes flashed briefly up to cast a gaze at his teacher before he focused back on the ground beneath his feet. It seemed worn as if it had been used many times before, and the young man wondered just how many times he would have the displeasure of walking it himself. He offered a noncommittal grunt to his teacher, at least acknowledging the other man's presence. He was glad to have Sensei's guidance, but some flicker of reason in his thick skull head fought the logic the white haired man offered ( ... )

Sensei waited politely for a moment to see if Nekura wished to extrapolate beyond a grunt, though the following silence soon proved he did not.

Sensei reached over and ruffled Nekura's hair solely for the pleasure of seeing him further disgruntled. "Cheer up, emo kid." It was his favorite "teaching" to lecture his young student about. Also the one thing Nekura would probably never learn. He was a bright kid, and a learned fast (at least when it came to fighting), but his constant doom-and-gloom disposition kept a constant grey cloud over their travels.

Sensei glanced up at the sky suspiciously to see if Nekura had yet summoned a rainy cloud to hover over their heads. Being thus distracted, he almost would've missed the sudden danger emerging on their right-- if, of course, he had been asleep.

If eyes could shoot daggers, Sensei would probably have been a dead man. However, that was not within Nekura's skill set so he had to settle for insolently swatting the hand of his teacher away. Slumping his shoulders further Nekura continued to follow the path. He muttered something under his breath as he kicked a small pebble.

The presence of someone else slowly brought Nekura out of his black cloud of doom. Ice blue eyes darted about the area before settling to the right. The approaching man wasn't very subtle about approaching them and Nekura narrowed his eyes. This man had intruded on some very important dark thoughts on the world according to Nekura.

Sensei put a hand on his young student's shoulders and pulled Nekura to a stop in the middle of the road. He glanced up at the sky again as the wind breezed across the path in front of them. It had been such a nice day ( ... )

The man looked positively pissed off that his recently perfected villian tirade had been interrupted by some fruffy teacher of some half baked kid. Standing taller, he put an indignant hand on his waist. "Don't you want to know who your attacker will be?"

Nekura rolled his eyes at the man. He looked ridiculous and seemed quite incompetent from his short speech. Sighing, he powered up to Ev2 and charged the man. His fist sunk slightly into the man's stomach. It was almost as if the man had a hide like a...

"Oh, did I not mention that I am a Rhino..."

At this Sensei blinked, his golden eyes widening slightly. This could mean big trouble for them.

"Beetle."

Both Sensei and Nekura stared blankly at the man.

Well... that sort've killed any trepedation Sensei might've had for this encounter. A Rhino ... beetle?

A bug?

Sensei sighed. It looked like they couldn't simply side-step this one, especially since Nekura had oh-so-enthusiastically already engaged the man. "Oh, alright." Pause. Still, it was a wonderful excuse for training. "Nekura! This looks like something you're perfectly capable of handling." He smiled, fully prepared for the child's glare.

The man-- or should he say Rhino Beetle-- bristled with indignation. "What? Do you know who I am?! You think some punk kid stands a chance against me? I'm going to take the both of you down AND take your Animal Stones--"

Sensei cleared his throat and waved his hand again, voice still polite. "I HAD asked that we could skip all that for the sake of time, didn't I?" The man obviously had a rough memory.

Nekura was fully prepared to cast a well deserved and completely unamused glance at his teacher, but the random riflings his "opponent" was engaging in distracted him. It seemed as if the man was having trouble locating just the right weapon to use in his ridiculous arsenal of metal objects. The pile at his feet was growing ever larger, and the boy wasn't quite sure that the load on the beetle's back was growing any smaller.

Suddenly, the man launched at Nekura, a pair of...wait plyers? Plyers. This -had- to be a joke of some sort. However, it was very possible that what Sensei had said had aggravated the random opponent. Nekura didn't want to be unprepared for anything this man threw at him. The beetle man didn't seem able to acheive power above level too and relied heavily on his many metal objects. It was easy enough to dodge the attacks, especially when the rhino beetle charged with his head down.

Sensei moved his and Nekura's supplies to the edge of the path, out of the way of the fight and any falling anvils. He settled himself down on top of his pack and glanced wistfully down the road. Was it not for setbacks like these, he and Nekura could already be in the next town and relaxing at the local bakery. Sensei hadn't eaten a decent cupcake in days.

He wondered if this was what withdrawl felt like.

A clang of steel brought his attention back to the fight, and for a brief moment he entertained the idea of stepping in himself. It would certainly end things sooner. But that idea was quickly rejected-- after all, Nekura needed to train. Besides it would be too much trouble for him to power up now for a strange little man like this Rhino Beetle.

Anyway, Nekura was perfect for this fight. Even as the man launched again at Nekura with the strange steel pinchers, Sensei knew Nekura had the tougher hide.

But ah! If only he had something to occupy himself with while they wasted time. A book or something to eat would be nice

While it was not a difficult fight, the boy was hard to find the right opening to actually launch his own counter attack. A sudden fear of being impaled with a a pointy metal object had hit him somewhere around the time that a tree had been knocked over with those pliers. Nekura cast a glance at Sensei and found the man to be sitting to the side. A sigh passed his lips as he dodge yet another attack. Maybe it was time to heat things up a bit.

Quickly making shadow creatures a series of complicated seals, Nekura readied his first attack.

Sensei raised an eyebrow as the bug took down a tree. So he was a little stronger than anticipated; perhaps he had been a lumberjack slash blacksmith before deciding to take up theivery?

In any case, the trees were certainly no match for his power.

Sensei smirked slightly, watching Nekura launch into new shadow puppets. That attack already? Perhaps he was actually being challenged.

The Rhino Beetle didn't seem to realize his danger and instead had two sharp, pointy objects now, one in each hand. Sensei's eyes watched to make sure the man didn't actually impale his young friend, but he was fairly confident Nekura could handle this.

Completing the seals, Nekura closed his eyes. Power radiated around him, indenting the ground beneath him and tossing around his already messy hair. As he opened his eyes, the faint silhouette of a white dragon danced in them. "Ah, let's do this thing Rhino beetle!"

In one quick movement, Nekura had launched himself at the enemy, fire dancing around his fists. Avoiding the swing of the daggers, Nekura swiftly landed a blow to the other man's stomach. The rhino beetle flew back into a tree, the arsenal on his back lessening the impact. A few miscellaneous things flew from his pouch onto the surrounding area.

Sensei was seriously considering taking a light nap. They had been traveling for quite some time now, and one took his breaks when he could.

He might've actually done it if those two hadn't been so loud.

Cracking open one eye, Sensei surveyed the damage so far. Three trees had bitten the dust and now that Nekura was playing with fire, there was a chance the entire forest might burn down.

Sensei decided to keep his eyes open just in case he had to save what remained of the trees.

Super Flaming Quadruple Serious Ultimate Attack of Anti-Climatic D00m nekura_ryuu February 9 2007, 10:30:32 UTC
A semblance of a smirk fell over Nekura's face as he watched his opponent pick himself up from the ground and wipe a line of blood from his mouth. "Not bad, kid." The guy laughed lightly, tossing the rest of his pack aside. Thick fingers flew through a quick series of Shadow Seals. A violent wind flew around his body as the air merged with his energies. Leaves were blown from trees, as were squirrel nests and the occassional lost knife. Gaggles of birds squacked their displeasure as they moved to new territory. Unpleasant crunching noises erupted as the next stage was nearing ( ... )

The man laid in his ditch for a few moments, not moving nor even seeming to breathe.

Sensei took his time smoothly rising to his feet, cocking his head curiously at the damage. He smiled at Nekura for having actually listened to one of his lectures, though he had no chance to praise the boy before the beetle coughed and fruitlessly tried to push himself up.

He seemed to be cursing.

Sensei lifted both their packs easily, hefting one over his shoulder and tossing the other to Nekura as he passed by. The two of them came to a stop a few feet away from the broken rhino beetle.

"... The hell, Kid?" He was rasping. He managed to push himself to his elbows, wincing as he did so. "You... you attacked while I was in a power up! You... you can't attack while someone's in a power-up! It's just... it's just rude ( ... )

Nekura glanced at Sensei before turning around to face the defeated man. In the palm of the man was a simple jade elephant. It was obviously a spirit stone. With a look of disgust the teen turned away. “I don’t want your stupid stone ( ... )
