Nekura watched in boredom as his opponent powered up. Previously, he had waited to charge the enemy after the sealing process. However, Sensei usually had lectured him and mumbled something about the world and how it works. Not wanting to go through another lecture, he prepared his fighting stance. One hand danced in front of him while the other was anchored in the back. Blue eyes narrowed as he flew at the enemy.
In one hard kick backed by the power of flames he sunk his foot into the man's stomach before the next stage could be reached. The beetle flew through two treees before slumping against the third. The charged wing died suddenly. All that was left were a few plumes of smoke.

Sensei took his time smoothly rising to his feet, cocking his head curiously at the damage. He smiled at Nekura for having actually listened to one of his lectures, though he had no chance to praise the boy before the beetle coughed and fruitlessly tried to push himself up.
He seemed to be cursing.
Sensei lifted both their packs easily, hefting one over his shoulder and tossing the other to Nekura as he passed by. The two of them came to a stop a few feet away from the broken rhino beetle.
"... The hell, Kid?" He was rasping. He managed to push himself to his elbows, wincing as he did so. "You... you attacked while I was in a power up! You... you can't attack while someone's in a power-up! It's just... it's just rude!"
Sensei blinked. "It's also rude to jump into travelers' paths and demand their Spirit Stones." He paused thoughtfully. One crime was greater than the other, but it was amazing how much offense enemies would take to their power-ups being shut down early. It was a strange factor of the Way the World Worked. He reached out to pat Nekura on the head. "Anyway," He began easily, "If you're quite done being beat up, we really must be on our way." Bakeries were closing soon and all that.
He had begun to turn away, only half-hearing the man's mournful "Didn't even get to use my secret attack... It's not right...!" when suddenly the man cleared his voice and called, "Wait, wait!"
Sensei paused. Nekura did as well, though didn't turn until the man added, "Kid. Hang on. I've... got something for you."

He had only managed a few steps before the guy spoke. “Don’t you know the powers this stone holds? If you collect them all, great power will be in your hands.” Nekura stopped walking, but did not face the man in acknowledgement. This was enough for the side character that would otherwise have no role. He took the opportunity and ran with it. “It is said that the spirits of the Sacred Animals reside within stones such as these. Different types of stones contain more or less power.
“There are a few with immense power. Those are known as Sacred Spirit Stones. There are very few stones like this in the world. It has been told throughout the generations that obtaining all of these can lead to great power. The owner of the complete collection will have the power to make any wish their heart desires come true. Riches, love, fame, and power can be theirs. There are even those who say it has the power to bring back the spirits of the dead.
“Many collectors exist in the world today. There are thousands of enchanted stones. Some families own large collections, others have but one. People will go to any lengths to obtain the stones. Some turn to thievery and trickery to gain theirs. Others enter tournaments for the chance to win more powerful ones. As of yet, there have been no confirmations of Sacred Spirit Stones being found. I say it’s only a matter of time before they are.
“Take this, kid. Let it be the start of your collection. Who knows where it can take you.”
Nekura took the cool stone in his own hand. To him it looked like nothing more than a carved rock. He was intrigued by it and made a note to ask Sensei later. The older man led the way and his student followed. They left the Rhino beetle where he had fallen. Town wasn’t too far away now.
