➙ DRABBLE [ Prompt: None ]

The rain poured relentlessly outside and Ai found herself blaming the weather for her inability to sleep that night. A feeble excuse at best, but she allowed herself to think that. With the hour so late and her mind restless she glanced up at the window. Rain was pounding away at the glass, showing no signs of letting up at that. Unable to help herself Ai sighed faintly before pulling back the blanket.

Careful not to wake the other three that were sound asleep she managed to slip out of the room with hardly a sound and closed the door behind her. You're being ridiculous again, she chided herself with a frown on her lips. Her arms were wrapped around herself as she wandered away from the room but it wasn't because she felt cold.

It was becoming more and more difficult for her to keep up the charade these days. In fact, she seemed to stop caring for that matter which bothered her. Even if she was far from home and even further from the Syndicate this island was by no means a vacation to relax at. In the beginning both herself and Kudo believed that this all could be an elaborate set-up revolving around the Cocoon system they were all too familiar with. But as the days passed on it was becoming less likely for it to be true. And she was familiar with the theories of multiple dimensions if only in passing. Physics, typical and theoretical, had been a part of her education. The concept of alternative dimensions was there but it was only a theory.

But if this is the case --if this really was the truth-- then it was far more troubling then she could have imagined. It meant that she was far away from the ones who sought out to kill her but at the same time she had to admit that it was intimidating to consider. Another world, another dimension? It made her feel even smaller than she already was.

Climbing onto the sofa in the inn room the young girl pulled her knees to her chest, resting her chin on top with arms tucked around them. Listening to the rain in the pitch dark room she allowed herself to succumb to the clambering of her thoughts.

It was important to continue the childish act if only for the sake of the two older teens that she lived with. Should they ever return home the last thing Ai wanted was to get any more parties involved in this mess. It would only mean another potential target. Yet, this island was filled with so many strange people that it seemed that a child with the intellect of a grown adult wasn't too odd --even if it still earned her and Conan strange looks whenever they did slip-up. She also couldn't help but feel a little indebted to the teens for taking her in, especially Kazuha.

Burying her face suddenly into her arms, her thoughts continued to pound away as harshly as the rain.

Onee-san... I don't know what to do.
