61. Picture of fruit - during Sarah Jane of the Chalet School
"So what are your plans for the summer?" Sarah asked, as Harry had brought up the fact that it was nearly the end of term.
"Perhaps go for a visit home," Harry said, picking out one of the raspberries. Sarah didn't quite like to ask where he'd got them because she hadn't seen any growing in the San garden. "We won't be as busy with no pupils."
She nodded and had a raspberry herself. "It sounds relaxing."
"That's just as well in this heat," he said and changed the subject.
He didn't ask her plans, she noticed and wondered why.
84. Author's choice - AU ending to Sarah Jane of the Chalet School (Sarah's POV)
Marriage, Sarah decided, was something she liked. Although she missed teaching, she was sometimes called in to the Annex to help out and she had more time to write. Harry spent longer at the San than at home, but she still saw him more often than she used to.
Then the war came, Harry joined the Navy and Sarah found a paper to write for. She found she didn't really miss Harry. When he came home after the war and wanted things to go back to normal she found she preferred her new life and wished she'd never got married.
85. Author's choice - AU ending to Sarah Jane of the Chalet School (Harry's POV)
Deep down Harry had known that Sarah wouldn't be content with just being his wife forever. He let her continue writing because it was something she enjoyed. She'd even taken the stories he told and published a book of them.
He'd hoped it would be enough and maybe if war hadn't broken out it would. But then he was away and Sarah got used to having her own life that didn't have room for a husband in it. After spending some time trying to reconcile them, Harry went back to the Navy. There he wasn't confronted daily with his failure.
19. Twilight - Harry's left the Navy and has a wife and four kids
When his eldest daughter went off to school, Harry missed her. They still had another child at home, but it made his days off very quiet. Granted, he enjoyed hearing about what she was learning and it did mean he could give all of his attention to his son. But it was different and he didn't like it.
He had a solution for the quiet in the house during the day. "Let's have another child," he suggested to his wife. She agreed with him. And again when his son started school. Which was how they came to have four children.
67. Picture of palm tree - TR
Harry had got used to the monsoon-like weather, but that didn't mean he liked it. Rover didn't mind being wet, but neither of them could go swimming or sailing and they were both fed up about that. Harry had his first aid classes to teach, and his clinic shifts, which kept him occupied for a while. Rover, on the other hand, had taken the opportunity to chew Harry's shoes. The clothes box, of course, wouldn't give him any and he'd had to ask people to help him. At least Rover hadn't chewed anything else in Harry's hut, so far anyway.
87. Author's choice - AU where Harry never joins UNIT and marries Esther instead
"I ought to go." Harry finished his drink, ignoring comments from his friends about being under the thumb. He didn't mind. It was comforting to know there was someone at home who missed you.
So he shouldn't be so glad to be away from her for six months at a time, but Esther could be overbearing. He always intended to leave the Navy if he married, but Esther insisted he stay, because he'd miss the sea too much. She knew him well, he gave her that. And he did love her, he just had to remind himself of that sometimes.
