Apocalyptica

Tonight, as a birthday present from Leslie (who now hold the title of best boss ever) I saw my 100th band.... Apocalyptica.

After the first song I knew this would at the very least make it into the top 5 shows I've ever been to.

By the end of the first encore i knew it was hands down the best show I've ever seen.   They finished their initial set, with Inquisition Symphony, which is a truly incredible song on the cd, but is 500 million times cooler when you're watching this guy with long hair headbang, while moving his fingers impossibly fast on a cello, kicking some serious ass.  They came out for their encore, they played And Nothing Else Matters, then Enter Sandman, and then the thing that clinched the top spot in my heart... my favorite song that they do, and definitely in my top ten favorite songs of ALL TIME.... Hall of the Mountain King.  For close to a year, this was the song that woke me up in the morning.  And let me tell you.... it was a sight to behold.  I've decided my "type" is Finnish, cello playing, long haired, rocker.   It was so good I got chills, and the only other time that's happened was at Nine Inch Nails.  Though I love NIN more than any other band, this show was just not to be surpassed.  They came out for a second encore, and they played a Rammstein cover that was amazing.  Leslie is she shit for buying me my ticket for my birthday, I took a picture of myself after I got home in my new hoodie (that surprisingly was coordinated with the outfit I wore this evening (big black boots, red fishnets, black skirt, red corset....hotness) and I'll post it later.    If I had a boyfriend right now, I'd totally be having sex, because this show was so amazing.  So I guess to put this in perspective I'll give you my top 5 shows ever.

1) Apocalyptica - Pop's (Sauget, IL)
2) Imogen Heap/Kid Beyond/Levi Weaver - The Pageant (St. Louis, MO)
3) Nine Inch Nails - Scottrade Center (who knows what its named now.....) (St. Louis, MO)
4) Pantera - The Tabernacle (Atlanta, GA) My 18th birthday... for the sheer fact that it was so insane my feet didn't touch the ground for most of the show and I wasn't even crowd surfing
5) Black Sabbath - Ozzfest '99 Lakewood Ampitheater (Hifi Buys?  What is it now anywho?) (Atlanta, GA)

I don't feel like as many good shows come here as did in Atlanta, but the quality of shows I've seen has been so amazing since I moved.  I guess I can't truly explain how amazing this concert was, but when you experience something like it you'll know what I'm talking about.  I was screaming, squeeing, jumping up and down like I haven't ever felt compelled to in my life.  So. Fricking. Amazing.

If you like cellos, if you like Metallica, or metal in general.  Check out Apocalyptica, because they are amazing and talented artists, and I feel so lucky to have experienced this tonight.  Truly Truly Awesome.
