Running pride

Jan 17, 2010 02:30

This morning I ran in the Frozen Buns run - 10k race. I run about 9k (5.8 miles around Forest Park) almost every Saturday with the Asha running group, and I'm trying hard to maintain this at least once a week run as a bare minimum for exercise. So I thought $30 would be well worth it for race event energy and this Sat's run may as well be the race.

I came 21st out of 111 women (gun time - actual time may have been better?!), and paced 8:37 per mile over the 6.2 miles. In the half marathon I ran before baby, I paced 9:39 per mile. That's a huge improvement.

I have been thinking that pregnancy and motherhood has been pretty hard on my working out, because I am able to make less time for running and I am not that regular. But in truth, I see that my running has gotten better, even though I am running much less than before. I have heard that women's VO2 max increases with pregnancy & nursing. So I should get off my butt and work harder to capitalize on whatever natural advantage I have. Running while pregnant must have helped.

I am pleased with today's results, so I thought I would share the pride,

achievement, fitness, body, post-partum, pregnancy, running, excercise
