The day began beautifully. It was warm, the sun was breaking through the clouds, and I made it successfully to Great Escape with 3 other kids in my car. We hit a few good rides... and then it started to thunder... and lightening... and then it rained... and it poured... Tornado warnings all over... Yuck. It cleared up and we spent a good deal of time waiting in line for the Raging River, not knowing when it would re-open and playing with our thumbs. After realizing it was all a waste of our precious lives, we got out of line and desperately searched for something else to do, some ride HAD to be running. Nothing was, save for the little motorcylce ride, and we weren't too keen on that one. We decided it'd be best to leave and go watch movies at Bri's house. We left in the pouring rain, and not 2 minutes after getting onto the ramp, I was pulled over by a state trooper and ticketed. Well, see, the story goes like this. I suck at driving, first of all. Second of all, cars were getting onto the northway from the ramp, and I needed to move over to the center lane to make room for them. There was a truck right in front of me in the center lane, spraying water all up onto my windshield. I, overwhelmed with this sudden surge of water that was obstructing my vision, panicked and, putting on my turn signal and checking the back mirror, switched over into the left lane. Well, I did not check nearly enough, because a pick-up truck behind me beeped, and I was later informed that he had been forced off the road by my bad move. This is a long story, but a brief moment when you think about the actual time it takes for these events to play out. So all of this that happened in this brief moment, just happened to take place in front of a state trooper. What are the friggin' odds. I was pulled over (after a few daunting seconds of not comprehending why a state trooper was behind me with flashing lights), and all I could think about was how much I did NOT wanna go watch movies anymore and how much it was going to hurt when my mother beat me later. The rest all happened so fast, I'm not sure I even remember it. The state trooper just kinda told me what he saw happened and that he was giving me a ticket for it, and that was that. (Ha, I'm sure having 4 other kids in the car--as I now had Bri for some reason--did not help my situation much.) And then the car was relatively silent for a while after that until Marc began singing, and Bri and Sade eventually helped him to lighten the mood. I even joined in a few songs. I'm not sure if I scared Heather out of her mind or what, but she remained consistently mute in the front seat for most of the way back home. I do have to thank her for helping me find my license and registration, though lol. And I am glad I didn't have to go through my first ticket alone.
So I get home finally, dreading ever moment of it, and my mother did begin to yell. I left the house and sat in the backyard crying, not really thinking anything specific, just not wanting to be in my house at the moment. After taking a deep breath and re-entering the house, my mom had calmed down, and both my parents shocked me when they told me they now had plans to fight my ticket. I was like, WHAT?? I mean, it's my fault. I made an unsafe lane change. Sure, it happens a lot and it can happen to anybody, but mine was unlucky enough to be caught, and I should pay for it. I mean, there's no way around it, right? Wrong. They're determined to fight this! My dad keeps lecturing me on how this is an unfair world and it's all about who you know. My mother's telling me how proud she is that that is the worst thing that happened today and that I'm learning from experience... even if it is the hard way. I think when I came into this world I must have signed up for the "difficult" mode. Sigh... This day has all happened just way too fast for me.
"Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table.
No one can find the rewind button boys,
So cradle your head in your hands,
And breathe, just breathe,
Woah breathe, just breathe
There's a light at each end of this tunnel, you shout
'Cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
These mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again
If you only try turning around."
But I did see Mr. Nelson at Great Escape. I guess that makes it worth it. Lol, and I really did have fun while it lasted. Senior skip day... Although I may not have been in class, it was quite an educational learning experience!
