Ushuaia to Buenos Aires

Feb 18, 2008 11:53

We were sad to hear Stephen's voice waking us up this morning.  And it was strange that even though it wasn't terribly early, it was still dark outside!  We had a very uninspiring breakfast that was made more enjoyable by Dolder's glee at the size of the breakfast sausage.  "Look at the size of those things!"  I can't believe I didn't take a picture.

Since we were catching a morning flight to Buenos Aires, our group was the first to leave the ship.  We said goodbye to our new friends and to the ship and headed down the gangway to the van waiting below.

Saying Goodbye to the Polaris

Early Morning in Ushuaia

Our flight wasn't direct, we had a stop somewhere.  We thought it was El Calafate, but Val is pretty convinced that the town we landed by looks nothing like the place she visited a few weeks ago.  So we aren't really sure where we were, but we did eventually make it back to Buenos Aires.  When we stepped outside the airport we were all immediately reminded that it's summer in Buenos Aires.  When we left Ushuaia it was 6 degrees Celcius (42F) and when we arrived in Buenos Aires it was 37C (98F)!

After showering, changing and much bag rearranging at the hotel we headed out for a little shopping along Calle Florida before making our way to Brocolini for an Italian dinner.  We arrived shortly after they opened, and were only a little surprised to see that the only person in the restaurant was Janine.  We joined her for dinner and enthusiastically dug into our first good meal in days.  After dinner we convinced Janine to join us for dessert and after dinner drinks at the Richmond, though it took us a while to get there because there was so much entertainment on the street.  We watched a tango show, did some shopping and enjoyed the lovely architecture.

Mindy bought a few of these lanterns.

Beautiful Building

At the Richmond, MIndy and Janine shared a small bottle of wine, while Heidi had a huge piece of cake and I finally got what I'd been craving all week amongst the icebergs - a bowl of ice cream.
