Ahh, sweet Fan-demonium

So a few days ago I posted about my newly-discovered affection for UK singer/songwriter Mika (MEE-ka). Since then, I have bought the CD, bought his acoustic tracks from iTunes, got the unreleased material, and joined the fan club. Who is Mika? Take a blender. Throw in a bit of the BeeGees, a splash of Elton John, a touch of Darren Hayes, a dollop of Freddie Mercury, and a cup or so of something totally and exquisitely unique. Hit "puree", and pour out a watercolor palette of aural fantasmic-ness. In tight orange pants.

It's almost exactly ten years (just about to the day, in fact) that I entered my last celebrity hyper-obesession. Think back to summer 1997 - oh yes, ladies and gentlemen, I'm talking about Hanson.

Actually, in 10 years, I still find myself lusting over a long-haired scrawny male singer with amazing piano skills, who writes his own material and exudes more than just a little sexual ambiguity. But I love it. In today's world of bills and interest rates and work and blah, being able to freak out and obsess over a musician (and, in 2007, spend hours watching interviews on YouTube instead of cooking dinner) is inspiring and refreshing and uplifting. And rejuvenating. Oh, and just a little bit crazy-making. Gawd, I hope he comes to Canada. That would be a fsking awesome. It's so refreshing to have someone who is, IMHO, actually talented. It was starting to seem like our generation was full of quasi-talented cookie cutter performers (Fergie, anyone?) It's nice. And I like it. I can't believe this - he's playing a concert in LA four days after I come back. The tragedy of it all.

In other news, in 47 hours I will be back in San Diego. I can't wait. Sea World, Disneyland...it should be grand. I so need it after working my fracking hind end off at work the last few weeks.

Cheers, all.
