Well....here is my very first post ever, and I am so delighted to make it about a very sweet birthday! It seems that when we get older our birthdays lose their bouncy and wild edge. Maybe having a mellow birthday is important because it makes us appreciate the wild and crazy birthdays we celebrate....I don't know. All I know is that my B-day was on a rather mellow track and I had lots of time to myself to reflect on my 38 years, something that left me in a funny mind space....well,that all changed when a very special friend came to visit me when he was off of work.
I suddenly was greeted with very tender kisses and hugs, and a surprise box of gifts! I was just so happy to se him that his company would have been enough...but he carefully had selected some extremely heart-felt presents that just made my heart grow wings and fly! The first one was the classic Church Of The Sub-Genius icon J.R. "BOB" Dobbs! Something that really brought a smile to my face for many reasons! The next gifts were really amazing...because they were a sort of handmade set of gifts that showed me that M really knows me and the little boy that I am. He had heard me talk of these funny bubble gum stickers that I used to collect as a kid...the gum was awful but the stickers were great! Well...he found them on the internet and created 2 shirts using iron-on transfers, both on baseball jerseys.(YAAAY!) One is an amazingly well done spelling of my name done in MONSTER LETTERS and the other is a great product lampoon of Super Sugar Crisps-every kids favorite cereal- except the product is Super Cigar Crisp..."Puff Your Way Through Breakfast!" with sugar coated cigar butts! I laughed so hard when I opened these up...it took me back to when I was a little boy....I always had a taste for the goofy humor in the world! (part of why M is so important to me) There were 4 more gifts in the box for me...fun toys! The first 2 I opened were blind picks of Joe LedBetter's "Finder's Keepers" series he designed for Kid Robot.....the first was a really sweet saber-tooth tiger named "Cutter" and the second was a big joy...it turned out to be a super rare MYSTERY FIGURE! I was stoked! It is a great figure of a goat done in orange! (my favorite color right now) I then also found 2 tins of Brian Flynn's "Ghost Land" toys of Super7's production team. Earlier in the Summer we went to Comicon in Sand Diego and I found these and got 3...in orange...and have loved them as they guard the kitchen from evil bad guys...M was so thoughtful he made his way through the internet and phone calls and got 2 more for me! As it turned out one was a "DUPE" or dulpicate of one I already have...but I didn't care! It is so cool to have a tag team of orange ghosts! I didn't mind at all...that is part of the fun of blind picks with toys like these! The second ghost toy was one that I almost had bought at Comicon but opted for another character,so it was a real treat to see him show up on my birthday! After enjoying each other's company and a beer M took me out for a birthday dinner at The Melting pot...a fondue restaurant I have never been to. It was awesome! The bartender made us homemade ginger ale and bourbon drinks which tasted great, and shortly after that we were taken to our seats. I was a newbie for fondue so I let M guide me through the whole thing...and let me say here and now....it was a meal I will never forget! I had to promise not to enjoy too much fondue because we were going to have desert...and I'm glad I saved room, because desert was the ultimate in food delights! M ordered a pot of white chocolate and Chambourd with a tray of strawberries, marshmallow, sponge cake and brownie!
OH MY GOLLY IT WAS GOOD! The strawberries proved to be the very best and my favorite...something about the mix of the strawberries, white chocolate and Chambourd did something to my mood that was nothing short of magical!!! We left...practically in a state of "food coma" blissed out on delicious morsels dipped in wonderful sauces...and I had a new memory that I will cherish forever. After dinner we made our way to EasyStreet Records on Queen Anne Hill to see the live in-store performance of the local band A Band Of Horses. They played songs from the album that they were releasing at midnight that night but they also played many songs from the first album...just in different styles. They are a good band...but I was just so happy to be enjoying my b-day with M...he really made the day into something special and it really felt like a birthday...he then drove me home where I slipped into bed with the biggest smile on my face and I gazed at my lovely gifts, then I went to sleep ..and dreamt of strawberries dipped in chocolate and Chambourd....blissed out, indeed! (Thanks M!)
So there it is...my very first entry and I made a book out of it! I'll get busy and start making this page more personal....
