Well, maybe not so much a cheetah but a limping, tired, old hyena.
Yesterday, I went for a late night walk/jog in UP. Got there almost 9pm with some apprehension: I didn't know if there would be many joggers there at that time or if there would only be a handful, and the paranoid me was kinda worried about security--I have never jogged that late in UP. Well there was one time that I sort of ran a short distance around 2am in a crazy, drunken state. Don't worry, I didn't go streaking. But I digress. And that's a story for another time. So, back to the topic at hand.
I got to UP, did some stretching, walked all 2.2 kilometers of the academic oval, attempted to jog/walk/jog the second round, and, channeling Forrest Gump, decided to go for a third round. I wasn't feeling tired and I wanted to keep going but I was afraid I might just suddenly collapse. I haven't done any serious cardiovascular exercises of late--unless emotional upheavals count.
The good thing about late night jogging is that there aren't many cars, bikes, and joggers around. It was soothingly quiet, and with less fitness buffs around, the less you needed to navigate around them and you could claim a lane for your own. I had my iPod and cellphone with me, and the car keys were strapped to my velcro watch. I was about to leave my cellphone in the car when I figured I needed a security blanket in case I have a panic attack. At least I knew I had a means to call anybody in an instant. I forgot to bring an ID with me, though. Okay, I think with this paragraph combined with the second, we've established that I'm a paranoid android.
On the third round, I sprinted the last 30 or 40 meters. Man, it was exhilarating! It was utter freedom! I haven't jogged alone in a loooong while and I'm glad I decided to last night. After my jog (I finished around 10:15 or so), I dropped by
Earnest's house to deliver her Ikea stuff and change clothes. She was out on a movie date with Buddy, so I didn't get to see her. But I went home with freshly baked cookies which I will devour in a little while. Thanks Earnest!
I haven't had dinner yet so I scouted Maginhawa St. for a place to dine. I decided on a kebab place I haven't tried before. I had gurka kebab, biryani rice, and their milk tea. The food wasn't exceptionally good, just something to tide one over. I still prefer Mister Kebab and Behrouz. After dinner, I went to Sarah's for a nightcap. I had an ice-cold beer, two smokes, and that was that. I went home on a glorious high after spending an evening alone. There's nothing like the sense of freedom that you get when you do the things you want to do without thinking of or depending on anyone. These alone times rock.
