So I have been trying to get back into shape since I was a very bad little girl the past three months. So I have been getting back into (slowly) walking and attempting to tone. I had no interest (or money) to join the YMCA or any other gym but last month our agency agreed to offer a corporate membership to a local hospital's wellness center. I kept hemming and hawing over it because I am not a fan of the gym. I like walking outside because if I walk the around the lake it is not like I can just quit after 10 minutes (unlike the treadmill). Plus, I just really like the outdoors.
So I decided on a whim last week (after getting quite upset with myself on the weight gain) that I would join. It is only $35 per month and there is no contract. I started out doing cardio and kind of screwing around with the weights but the nice thing is they offer a personal trainer. So I met with her this evening. Ouch!!!!! She asked me what my goals were and here they are:
*lose 10 to 15 lbs (just want my wonderful size four wardrobe to fit comfortably instead of tight)
*gain upper body strength
*tighten up stomach, maybe get a bit of a six pack
*get rid of flabby inner thighs
*get rid of flab on my back
*bottom line, get back to where working out allowed me to eat what I wanted (not eat everything in sight but not worry about having pizza or some other carby meal)
The workout is tough. I am starting with two sets/eight reps each building up to two sets/ twelve reps each. Once I can do that, I will add a little more weight and start over again. I have four different arm machines, plus dumbells for my upper body. I have three different machines for my legs. I will be doing these on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Daily I will do cardio (walking on the track, outdoors, treadmill or elipical, can do the bike and the rowing machine as well) varying from 30 minutes to 90 minutes. The great thing is I can switch it up/divide it up however I like it. I can also do ab work daily ( which I might do or at least get in five times a week). I have three machines, plus crunches, etc. that I can do.
So I did the whole weight training program tonight and minimal cardio. The trainer is great and offered some great suggestions. So I am beat and I am going to hit the sack and hopefully I can get out of bed in the morning without feeling like a 90 year old. :)
