US Life on Mars

Well, it was not as bad as I thought it would be. A lot of it was pretty well done. What's-his-name is no John Simm, but he didn't do too badly; he can at least do a passable American accent. The one horrible glaring bad thing: Harvey Keitel. He's too old and frail-looking to play Gene. The reason Gene gets away with all the stuff he does in the original is that he's physically intimidating. He looks like he could beat the crap out of most people, and you know he's got no moral compunctions about doing so. Combine that with what's his name being the typical muscly six-footer of American TV (even though the actor is actually Irish) instead of the average height, thin as a twig Sam of the original, and the whole dynamic of the two main characters is thrown off. This Sam doesn't have to win over Gene with results, he can just beat him up because he's bigger, fitter and much younger.
