So CFG decided to consolidate its mortgage operations - meaning, rather than have a whole bunch of people doing the same job in several different places they laid off most of the people and are now doing the job with less people in fewer places.
So the mortgage people who have been working here in Indianapolis longer than we've had retail branches in the state (by 15+ years) were laid off shortly after New Year's and have now vacated the premises. They left behind all kinds of office supplies though, which are now being picked through by all of the rest of us.
I feel bad for them because now they're out in the job market, but I'm glad to have some of the new stuff (since it probably would've just ended up in a storage unit somewhere unused, and I got the go-ahead from my supervisor to snatch it up). I now have a headset for my desk phone, an HP LaserJet 1100 for my desk, a portable HP DeskJet 450 for when I'm travelling, an APC Smart-UPS 1000, a new high-backed chair, and a couple other goodies.
