Mars bars and such
Hey Livejournal!! Long time no see!
I just realised that practically all my posts lately have been "I really need to write in here more often". You can tell how shitty and boring things have been since I haven't really been writing in here. I mean even when things are terrible I can write about how terrible everything is...but when it's boring? It's a lot harder.
AAAAAANYWAY..
My really awesome friend Luke who I used to work with and who moved to Brisbane this year has come down to Adelaide for the week. I've LONG speculated that he's gay (as has my friend Sarah) and he's denied it for as long as I've known him. Well guess what? He's finally come out of the closet!! Brisbane has been so good for him. He's really come out of his shell there.
Last night I went out on the town with Luke, his younger sister Ashlea, her boyfriend Andrew, her friend Kate and Andrew's friend Lee. And they were all SOOOO NICE. Before I met up with them I was thinking "oh dear God I'm going out with a bunch of strangers and Luke is the only one I know" but they were the nicest people ever. And Ashlea has got to be the greatest sister ever! We went to a gay bar in the city called The Mars Bar and Ashlea came back with two guys to introduce to her brother who were pretty cute!
I guess after all those headlines on the news about teen gay suicides and gay bullying I had lost faith in the world. But it was really touching how supportive and awesome his Adelaide friends were (and though I haven't met them, apparently his Brisbane friends are awesome too). Lee, Andrew and the others were all patting him on the back and saying "Good job mate" and trying to find him guys to talk to as well!! The night ended up becoming a celebration of Luke's coming-out.
Luke and I got completely pissed and were dancing like idiots. I vaguely remember us singing "I THROW MY HANDS UP IN THE AIR SOMETIMES! SAYIN' EH-OH! BABY LEEEET'S GO!!" and "THE CLUB CAN'T EVEN HANDLE ME RIGHT NOOOOOOWWWW..." at the top of our lungs. SO FUN.
By the end I had had one too many shots and was feeling pretty gross, but all in all it was a really fantastic night. Oh and Luke got his first boy kiss! :D He said it was totally gross because the guy was a sleaze and probably a smoker, but hey, milestone! He still hasn't told his parents that he's gay yet, but I'm 99% sure that they already know. Nevertheless, he's still nervous about telling them. But I know it'll all be alright. :)
