1. What was the first song you heard by #6?
HOWLING. Still makes me shiver with awesomeness. I just thought, this man can SING. Jap AND English. Now look what happened, that one song led me to my first unforgettable JRock gig.
2. What's your favourite song by #8?
The more I listen to them, the more songs I love, and it was so hard to make a limited best-of playlist. Right now, probably Yami no Kuni no Alice. I wanna take you awaaaaay~
3. What impact has #1 had on your life?
Where to even begin. I guess it's no surprise #1 is for this question, since everyone is bound to put their favourite artist first. In as short an answer as possible, GACKT introduced me to Japanese music, took all my money, provided some of the best live music I've ever experienced and made me change from not really knowing what to study to learning Japanese and seeking to visit and maybe even work there. So yeah, a pretty damn huge influence. Thanks so much, G, because in a way you made me who I am.
4. What are your favourite lyrics by #5?
Probably from Torture, I think "even if it's destiny, I don't run away" is pretty inspiring stuff, especially in a pretty emotionally wrought song.
5. How many times have you seen #4 live?
Worst question for these guys, damnit. I haven't yet but I soooo want to! Roll 2013-14 and we'll see what I can do about that!
6. What is your favourite song by #7?
Right now I'm loving pretty much the whole of Dum Spiro Spero, but LOTUS is properly awesome. I can't get enough of that song, and the album version is even better than the single since they upped the volume of Kyo's vocals in the verses.
7. Is there any song by #4 that you find sad?
Um... not really that pops straight into my head. Liar is almost there but it's more angry than sad. So I'm gonna go ahead and answer for a different number because I just gotta mention GACKT's Setsugekka -The end of silence-. The sheer emotion in that song, along with YOU's beautiful violin, had me welling up the first time I listened to it.
8. What's your favourite song by #3?
Gotta be either the amazing LORELEI or the re-recorded version of Vivid Place. Before I gave VANDALISM a listen, I would have said The farthest or Frontier since they were also the first songs I really listened to by DELUHI.
9. How did you get into #9?
I initially tried L'Arc~en~Ciel after I found Hyde's duet with GACKT. To be completely honest they were never really heavy enough for me xD So anyways I was keeping tabs on Hyde anyway, and I gave VAMPS a go as soon as they were formed and followed them ever since. Upbeat glam-rock, Japanese style. REVOLUUUUUUUTION, YEAH!
10. What's your favourite song by #2?
Oh God, bad question. I love everything they put out! More to the point, I don't think there's anything of theirs that I don't like! But if I had to give an answer, probably The Revenant Choir. It was one of the first songs I listened to and I still love that epic opening riff. Plus I arranged it for piano.
11. How many times have you seen #8 live?
Just the once, in the amazing Underworld. I wasn't a particularly huge fan at the time, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but they were incredible live and really blew me away. It's one of the best concert experiences I've had, I could touch all the band, the setlist was huge, and I was half deaf for three days afterwards.
12. What's a good memory concerning #9?
Um, idk. Probably when I first heard REVOLUTION and spent the next week listening to it on loop playing air guitar. I swear it even snuck into my dreams too without me noticing.
13. Is there a song by #10 that makes you sad?
If I think about it, there probably aren't even any sad Daizy songs xD Especially recently, they've gone really Oshare I feel with their latest album, and I didn't really like it compared to their older more VK stuff. I hope this next album is a little less pop-y.
14. What's your favourite song by #1?
Either REDEMPTION, the first G song (and JRock song!) I ever heard. It's still incredible and it's a shame it never made it onto an album. Or, Flower (the single version not the album one) because it's just so beautiful and GACKT sings with such emotion; it's a really powerful piece of music that deeply affects me when I listen to it. Or, Jesus. Because live, it is the best song in the whole world EVER.
Well that was interesting, the fav songs-type questions were a bit repetitive but it was kinda nice to look back at my favourite artists. Anyone else up for a go at this meme?
