Read the Hunger Games trilogy in the past few days. I'm glad I did- People had been telling me to read it for awhile and I finally reserved the first book through the library (albeit tentatively) last November or so, and only just got a copy now. Worst thing they could have done for the book was put a Stephanie Meyer quote on the front about how it's an excellent book. Made me want to give up before I'd started.
It hasn't become my favourite series, but that's not to say it's not good-- I would definitely recommend. Obviously it hooked me as I started Tuesday afternoon and finished Thursday evening. First book is the weakest, but that's not to say it's weak- I skimmed a review of the book before I'd started reading them and the reviewer noted that he thought the first third was much more polished than the second two, almost as if it'd been written later (as the first third is mainly setup and the others the action). I can see that- and I can see that polish going through to the later two books as well.
BUT anyway, I'm behind on the times as usual. Seriously though, the worst thing anyone could have done for this series was give it rabid Twilight fans. I hope the movie is decent so that people who are determined to hate it (like I was for a bit) don't have another reason to do so.
