It's been a while! I guess that just means you get the quick summary of the past month, since the events are no longer fresh in my mind. ^^
My trip to Newfoundland with Clem was absolutely wonderful. We had near-perfect weather, Sara and Trevor's wedding went without a hitch, and everything about the trip was so relaxing. I was truly sad to leave. Everything is so peaceful there, and the people are so laid-back and kind. If flights weren't so ridiculous, I would definitely consider getting a summer home there. Property is dirt cheap!
We stayed at my nan's in Twillingate most nights, and visited a lot of my mom's family. Uncle Harv took us out on a boat ride one day, which was one of the trip's highlights. We got up close and personal with icebergs and seagulls, and not as close to one seal.
Shooting Sara's wedding was a blast. I was initially intimidating with the task, but with the wedding being so fun and casual (Sara is the opposite of a bridezilla), everything went smoothly. I got a few shots that I'm quite proud of, and Clem also did a great job as my assistant! He took shots of Trevor's family getting ready in the morning, as well as some lovely shots of the bridesmaids at the ceremony.
After the wedding, we went to Gros Morne for a night. I regret not staying there longer, but we had a lot of fun taking in the sights there! The last few nights of our trip were spent in St. John's. I was sad when we initially arrived, as I knew it was the final lag of our trip, but being in a place with ethnic food, quaint coffee shoppes, and random events going on everywhere made me confirm that I'm definitely a city girl. Plus, I loved just walking around that city. The architecture reminds me a little bit of New England.
The George Street Festival was on while we were in St. John's, so we got to see Great Big Sea live! According to FB, a few people I know were there, but it was too crowded to bother looking for anyone. With one exception: we bumped into my old friend Kenneth, which was a lovely surprise! While we were there, we also saw Captain America at the Avalon Mall, and met my incredibly talented photographer cousin, Karen.
I made sure to take in all the Edmonton festivals upon our return. Lots of good times with friends and family. The Folk Fest was especially great. Seeing k.d. lang sing Hallelujah was breathtaking, and I have rekindled my obsession with Brandi Carlile. I was introduced to a few new singers as well, which is always nice!
I've been keeping busy with new freelance projects. I've been feeling a lot more confident and happy in that regard. Go me. :) Also: I started a temp job that I'm enjoying! I'm with ATB Financial's HR department. I missed the office atmosphere, and I love being downtown in the Churchill/Arts District. <3 We have a great view of the square from the 13th floor, and the people are so friendly. Jenn is also temping here until school starts. We're on separate floors, but we've had a few lunch dates. My position ends on September 16, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they might extend it or hire me permanently.
Clem, Amanda, Kevin, Tristan and I went camping last weekend, which was a blast. I wish I had been able to camp more this summer! Tristan's third birthday is tomorrow, so I think we're having a BBQ for him on Friday. :) And that's all for now! Tonight I'm going to organise more of my billion photos, and hopefully post more soon.
