The Good, The Bad, The Hopeful

Aug 29, 2008 11:02

Well, a few things of note has happened since my last entry. We'll call it the good, the bad and the hopeful!

Good: Amanda had her baby! Justen and I went to the hospital while Amanda was in labour, and I got to hold Tristan when he was just an hour old. *gush* He's cute - looks just like Kevin.

Bad: I was fired two weeks ago. I know I brought part of it on myself with late mornings and lack of motivation, but part of it was also attributed to having no training (and no help when asked) and issuing a few packages with quality errors as a result. I was really upset for a few days, but it definitely made me think about everything.

Hopeful: I decided I need a change, so I enrolled in a TESOL certificate course, which starts in a couple weeks. I've talked about teaching English overseas for years, so I'm going to act on it. I'm not looking at this as a career per se, but rather as a lifetime experience. Then, I will decide if it's something I want to continue; if not, I will start looking for a career in graphic design, and move to Calgary or Vancouver if necessary. I've held myself back because of my condo, not wanting to move, my wonderful friends, and being close to family; but it's apparent that despite all those things, I'm not happy and I need to feel motivated again. My dad was also very supportive and said if I want to go back to school, even for something different, he would help me out.

I was given two weeks of pay, which ends today. I'm not sure what I'm going to do before my course starts. A couple people still owe me money, and I'll be getting rent from my roommate in a few days, so I know with that and my final paycheque, I'll be set until the course starts (Sept 10), but I'm not sure what I should do during the online portion of the course (which follows the five days in-class). I don't want to dip into my savings and I don't want to be unemployed this long. I don't want to seek another job in document control, especially since I may not stay for long after the course. I've thought about just getting a job nearby, like at a restaurant, but... eh. Jenn's been going on interviews with temp agencies so I might look into that, and see if anyone's looking for someone just for a couple weeks. That seems like the best option.

So, despite it all, I'm looking at everything positively, and have enjoyed the bit of time off! I spent the first few days relaxing, playing WoW, watching Fullmetal Alchemist (thanks to Mike for lending me the DVDs) and being lazy. I spent some time with Amanda and friends before Tristan was born, and then spent part of this week in Devon with family. My nan is up from Newfoundland and Sara was up from Vancouver, so it was great to see everyone. :) I wish I had grown up with my mom's side of the family more as a child, but I'm so happy that I'm getting to know them all now. <3 My cousin Sabrina's wedding is on Sunday, so I'm going to that in Spruce Grove, then I'm catching a ride with Dad up to Fort Mac for a few days. Once I return (or while I'm up there), I'm going to look into the temp positions.

Today, I'm cleaning, and I'm going to start on the sketches for my uncle's company logo (so lazy, need to stop procrastinating on that!). I want to have something to show him for the wedding. I wasn't all that excited about the wedding at first, but now I'm pretty excited to see everyone. :) So, that's it! I hope everyone enjoys their Labour Day weekend!
