Some of you may have been to
Sailor Moon Secrets. Some of the entries there are very cool, and lay out a lot of great viewpoints about insights into characters and ships and anime vs. manga and whatever have you. I have a few particular favorites, such as
this, this, this, and
this. But what struck me was that there wasn't really an entry that told why anyone ships Senshi/Shitennou. And we DO ship them.
There are other ships out there. And they're cute.
But then there's OUR ship.
Yeah, we're that bad-ass.
But why are we so awesome? What is it about our ship that makes it so impossible for us to ship anything else?
This is why. This is our ship, right here.
We know our story starts long ago.
And maybe, there was a hint of something there.
But as we know, it ended in sadness.
But there was a second chance. And you just wonder, if Jadeite finds Rei before he finds Beryl, does it end differently? Because we know he, and his fellow shitennou, are good men.
Ours is the great ship of what if. Our fandom is built around the fact that the heroine and the hero got a second chance. But what about our other heroines? Don't they deserve the same? And what about our other heroes? Because surely WE see them as heroes, even if others don't. Certainly, they were villains. But who doesn't love a good redemption story. And nothing redeems quite like love.
Takeuchi-sensei herself said she wished she had explored this story further. But she never did. So it's up to us.
"It's you," she whispers. "I never thought I'd see you again."
He can't tell if she's dismayed or happy from her tranquil tone, and hesitantly lifts his eyes to her face. Even more beautiful than he remembered, her expression a mix of awe and pain. Sad and happy. "You remember me."
"Everything," she murmurs in return. He flinches.
"Two-thousand and two years ago, on this very day," her voice lowers to a sweet whisper, "I promised to marry you."
-"Maybe Something Needs to be Let Out" by
verisimilitude9 And hot-damn if we don't do it well!
So tell me, fellow shippers. Why do you ship it?
