Anchor Management Preproduction

Starting on Monday, May 21st, we began the preproduction process for Anchor Management, the Boggards' sixth CD. We've had a couple false starts on recording, and some stuff was already pretty far along when we decided to reschedule (as some of you may have heard from our preview CD, which was included with the Pox'd Set). But now we are rehearsed, ready and determined.

Preproduction (for us) consists of figuring out which songs we're going to record, what kind of instrumentation we want on each song, what tempos we'll record at, etc.

We've also set up our recording schedule. According to that schedule, we will finish up tracking (that is, recording) by July 28th. That's our goal. It very well may slip into August. Sometimes life makes that decision for you. During the recording of our fifth CD, Whiskey Business, I had a lot of "life" happen: I moved twice, became a dad, sold a house, bought a house and got married. In the end, Whiskey Business took nearly a year and a half to record.

We don't expect those sorts of delays with Anchor Management, but you never know.

As for the music on Anchor Management, I'm very excited. We've got a lot of great songs: some you may have heard, some you haven't (and three or four we haven't heard yet).

There are twenty tracks slated for the disc. Of those twenty, thirteen are original compositions. We have offerings from Bill Roper, Steven & Phil Schwadron, Jon Enge, John E. Breen and yours' truly. We have an entire Faire season's worth of shows, during which we performed many of these tunes. So (except for the three or four songs we've never heard before) we will probably be the most prepared we've ever been for a recording project. When you combine this great list of songs, the many hours of preparation and performance and twelve of the most talented and driven guys I've ever worked with, we're looking at what will probably be our best CD to date.

Yeah, I know. "Blah, blah, blah. It'll be great, whatever." But going in to this project, the whole thing has a different feel.
