a little early, but all the same.

[a work in progess as I continue to procrastinate grading for the second term.]

**things I didn't do this year:
apply for a PhD

become a pescatarian (still a pollotarian...)

celebrate channukah

feel completely comfortable
figure out what I'm doing with my life

go to Amsterdam

start a [conventional or healthy] relationship
stop eating Pork

take the Bilingualism course at the University of Utrecht
take the train from Paris to Amsterdam (although I did take the Eurostar 2x again and I still LOVE it. arriving in Paris cannot be beat. St Pancras Station is nice, too. Leaving it is great.)

vote in the midterm elections

**things I did (instead):
bought:

stuff-- (too much as always, but here are the neat highlights)
A rarely used gym membership (because I've been at my old gym with a good friend who still lives there)
Russian textbooks in Paris
Viv Westwood heels in Edinburgh
Marc Jacobs natasha bag and ladybug tote
2 really great pairs of GAP jeans that I have been wearing almost every day since September.
some education books from the 70s including SUMMERHILL (which I may or may not read)
vintage boots for 20E in Paris
not enough Chicken shwarma sandwiches in Le Marais, but SOME. AND THEY WERE DELICIOUS.
Many oranges. I love oranges.

[tickets for gallerina to come on a Euro-jaunt with me. money well spent!]

concert tickets to--
Andrew Bird
Cat Power
The Go! Team
St Vincent
The Radio Dept
Vampire Weekend 2x
TIESTO
Owen Pallett, though the show is in January

read:
Pnin, The Hamlet, A Handmaid's Tale, Trainspotting, Slam, Atlas Shrugged, Therese Raquin, Under the Roofs of Paris, American Pastoral, Mother Tongue, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay
(that's just since September)

traveled:
Bangkok
Boston
Chicago
Edinburgh
London 2x
NYC<-- and took a course at Lincoln Center, which was excellent.
Paris 2x
Phuket (well, returned on Jan 2nd)
Prague
San Francisco
Washington DC

finished a 25-pageish story I've been working on for a year. Well, at least I know how it ends. As far as the scaffolding of the ending, we're not quite there yet. And it needs some help on the sides, too.....
many letters

fell:
in lust, out of infatuation, and out of everything.

{cut my hair. kind of regretted cutting my hair. currently missing my hair.}

Verdict: In some ways, 2010 was more awesome than 2009... mainly the repeat visits to Europe and the connecting with friends...but there was less novelty.

I turned 25. Bummer.

However, the reading level was fairly high, and I have a couple of books left in me--currently reading Life of Pi. My quest led me to some pretty great bags and shoes but not much further than that. Getting motivated about change instead of frightened is tough. That's pretty much where I am right now: apathetic, passively frightened, and making progress slowly.
