Exam ... !

Well I took my big exam last evening after work! I tried to keep my mind off of it throughout the work day but also review intermittently when possible. I was required to have a proctor to administer the exam and it was all done online. After a few delays in tracking down the testing code and getting up and running, I was off! I was so afraid of having a system glitch where Windows closes and the system needing to be restarted. I’m not sure how that would have worked, especially given that the testing company is in Massachusetts (3 hours ahead) and I was taking the test after 2:30PM.

Let’s just say that this test reminded me of one of the worst parts of college. Even knowing the material inside and out, the multiple choice questions seemed to make me feel as if I never studied. The great majority of the questions focused on the financial unit of the course. I’ve always considered myself to be weakest and financial concepts so this was pretty humorous. The good thing is that I spent, by far, the most time on that unit just having known my weakness. Despite the course materials stating that the exam does not require rote memorization or learning obscure facts, some of the questions had me really shaking my head. Questions worded like, “which of the below would not positively contribute to cash flow” and then each of the selections were different words than I had learned in the text. *sigh*

Anyhow, I think that I was strongest at the essay questions and generally always have been. Upon completion of the exam, they told me automatically that I had passed the multiple choice section but that the essays would need to be graded and returned. They advised a turn around time of two to four weeks but I truly hope that that range is at least halved. I’m completing paperwork this morning (such as obtaining a notary) to mail in and hopefully expedite getting certified.

I’m very excited at the prospect of finally getting my credentials. It’s something I’ve either thought about doing and hoped of completing for some time but just took the effort to get the ball rolling and begin the arduous task of eighteen months of study. I’m certainly planning for a positive outcome from the essay grading and will definitely post here when it’s all done!
