It always makes me feel happy when somebody says that they still love something from their childhood after years and years have passed. I don't know why -- I guess that it's just a nice feeling to love something that long. It's heartwarming. :)
I'm definitely going to try watching/reading this. I'd heard the name before and wasn't too interested, but you've convinced me to give it a shot.
Would you recommend the manga or anime? Or both?

Oh, I always get envious from the people that do! I have a very short attention span, and this is one of the few series I kept my interest in after so long.

Well, what I do recommend is reading the manga and watch the episodes of the anime that lack in the manga (aka the fillers). It's one of the few series where the fillers have really contributed to the original. The manga is great in comedy and action, and it's more adult than the anime (the violence is explicit, where the anime is aimed at children - there is no blood and such). Still, the fillers alowed the anime to have great character development, something the manga was lacking. They used the spare time to fill the background of the 'evil' characters, to put characters that barely appeared on display, and to develop their relationships. Basically all that I've spoken about here never happened in the manga. I'm glad that my essay conviced you to try it!

Interesting, interesting! I admit the idea of that all-consuming curse, spreading throughout someone's body, as a romantic thing-- a canon romantic thing, even-- compels me. The manifesto I want to post soon involves a similar situation involving a curse which I could definitely see as sensual in one light, even though my manifesto doesn't focus on that, so I'm definitely squee about this, and may well check it out!

A little sad that the anime seems to be the one that's more 'shippy, though. I get along with manga a lot better than I get along with anime, since I like setting my own pace. But I may just try the anime anyway. :)

Oh, which would your fandom be? Curses don't usually come into relationships, so I'm awed to find another couple that has something like that! I feel like sensuality and romance are better explored with subtleness and hints - so this idea of a curse really makes me feel.

Totally, specially anime with tournament-styled fights. Most anime tend to drag on the fights so much... I confess I gave up on the anime after a few episodes, and only got to watch it later. It suffered awfully from bad animation. The music and voice acting, though, were top notch, and the new subplots created specifically for the anime were the best thing that ever happened to the original story. If you are interested without wanting to be bored, I recommend watching episodes 70-71 and 88-94, which are the shippy relevant ones, really.

Oh, it's Atelier Iris 3, a JRPG. These two are not in any way a canonical pairing, but there is a curse involved between them, and... what you wrote here definitely gave me a few ideas for possible fics I could write about them involving that, hehe. Keep your eyes peeled for my post eventually-- how long does it usually take to have a mod approve you around here, by the way? I remembered this community existed when I had a burning desire to write a manifesto but I've never actually watched it before, so the culture here is all new to me.

And thanks so much for the recs! That helps to narrow it down. I'll definitely give that a try; the story sounds pretty fascinating from how you've told it, which I guess is either a compliment to you or the story, I'm not sure which. :D

I'm glad my manifesto was useful to give you fanfic ideas, and I can't wait to read yours. I'm also new here, so I can't really can't speak... My manifesto wa approved fast, if I remember correctly, in one day!

I hope you find out it's the story, haha - it'd do well to have new people liking this series! I love to see other people interested in things I love, so, yeah!
